Thanks to all of you who posted the nice comments regarding my barn model!
Here are some views of the scratch built barn I have been working on for the last month or so. I just completed it. It is an architecturally accurate model of what is known as a "Pennsylvania Barn". Key features are the forebay, roof with just two planes, and a stone foundation that will be built into a hillside. The barn has about 500 individually applied boards, all of which were stained using Hunterline stain. The planks are nothing more than coffee stirrers....a box of 1000 costs all of $1.99. The silo is by Ertl, and I picked it up roughly 20 years ago with the plan to someday use it for a barn on my layout. And now, that has finally become a reality! It has been painted and weathered.
Note the close up of the lightning rods which is my favorite touch. They were made of nothing but brass wire and craft beads which simulate lightning rod balls.
The barn will sit at trackside awaiting completion of the three dimensional scenery which I anticipate will take a few months to complete...and if we are lucky, perhaps a little less. We shall see!
Great work!! What did you paint the Silo with?
Hey Mike Caruso,
Happy birthday buddy, mine was just 2 weeks ago and it was my 69th. Next year I reach club 70.
Stay young my friend!
Hi David...just saw this. Happy Belated Birthday to you as well. 70 next year huh? I'm sure you'll still be playing with your O Gauge "toys" and having fun!

Very nice, Richard. And not every layout has a TH&B torpedo boat geep.
Here are some pics from this morning out at the train club. I FINALLY finished my Rail Runner (after much painting and decaling, plus a lot of patience and understanding on my wife's part), and got a chance to run it right away. My daughter came along to help & did a little driving too. She's a great train buddy!

Fine work, frizzinbee. And I see that your daughter is also the Crew Caller and she got you marked up on the assignment, in addition to giving you a break at running the engine. You have a good hand there. Now, that New Mexico RailRunner gets me thinking about eating some hot pork and Hatch green chile. Gonna have to do something about that.
Your personal record has been awarded ten merits.
Moonson are they cattle or Bison in the photo?
frizzinbee nice Railrunner job that was one of our engineering projects will have to saw it to one of the engineers upstairs [that now makes at least three sets done in "O"].
Neal nice work on the barn, like all your work. Pass a barn like that coming and going from work every day.
David 1 Missed you at First Frost Sat.
Moonson are they cattle or Bison in the photo?
...Bison.
BobbyD,
The concrete portion is painted with Rustoleum Khaki colored camouflage paint, then weathered with black Bragdon's chalks. The dome and chute going up the side are painted silver, then hit with a few coats of Dullcote.
That barn is spectacular. Great weathering - not overdone or "cartoony"
