Welcome to Weekend Photo Fun! The election is over and now we can get around to running our trains.

I was on my way back to Virginia from Atlanta earlier this week and stopped at Concord Mills, outside of Charlotte.I saw this at Santa's spot at the mall.

It's not a full Lionel store but it is good exposure for the hobby. Way to go Lionel.

Now it's your turn...let's see your pictures.

I have wanted a VIA Rail Banff Park park car for many years now. I finally got up the nerve to 'create' one this month. I had a second K-Line CP Tremblant Park 15" car I got for this purpose. I added figures, especially in the dome. The original car only came with one figure up there. I changed the lighting to LED. An 11" LED strip from znhotrains.com and a rear LED 'tail light' from Evan Designs. The blue stripe, car name and VIA drumhead decals are from Microscale, the 'Canada', VIA and flag decals are from Highball Graphics. I used Rosco 1/4 blue gel to tint the windows. Rosco gels are used by film and video professionals. And I found that Tamiya's PS-41 Bright Silver acrylic paint was an almost dead-on match to the K-Line silver on the car. Here are before and after photos.

i was thinking that too. And then I realised that it's probably one controller for the train, and one for the accessories. (They might not be CW-80s but Powermax controllers as I can only see one pair of terminals on one of them.)

Good eye, Nicole.  I didn't see the single set of terminals.  That probably explains it.

Week 3 toward creating 2012 Christmas layout memories

Working on the plateau - it's going to be devoted, mostly, toward display everything that I include in what I call the "Family Train".  My Father bought the 2343 and a bunch of cars and accessories in 1950 and I am now in possession of it, even tho' I don't claim ownership of it - thus the 'Family' name.

The cardboard houses and the manger are part of the "family train" too.

That's one of my favorite streams Jim!

We've always admired the Tuxedo Scheme on the Southern diesels. For some reason the major manufacturers have largely neglected this handsome scheme so I had a friend paint a lone Lionel Burlington E6 into SR No 2800.

I need to add some minor details when we get settled in but wanted to show it to you all heading up a string of MTH cars that I relettered SOUTHERN.

Great photos all some good variety Tks for posting!

Like the VIA redo! Well done looks good!

I picked up a VIA park car at the VIA station the other day when getting some Amtrak tickets! Photo below the cars are out as a promotional piece for VIA rail. HO VIA /CP sets are in shops now they look stunning by Rapido.

Not sure what happened to the sets that Golden Gate was doing they disappeared from the website in O scale.

Here is Gordon and Henry at a recent train show repaints from Hogwarts engines.

And other shots from a display I set up for the kids. Click on photos for larger views.

Jim

You can always say it's a railfans trip ...thanks to showing that pic, I'm far from making scenery on my nee layout, but it make me feel more secure with my Fastrack choice. They look very nice on that pic

"Got the B&M BLues!"

Man, I go thru a year's worth of beer putting up and taking down the layout!!!!  Spending 2 weeks installing just the wiring completely sober is unthinkable!

Curious: are you a PGH fireman??

Walt,

I like the little cardboard glitter houses way in the back.  How old are they?

Mark, sorry, but I don't know.  I do know that I remember them being on the layout every Christmas in every picture that Dad took.  I would guess that he bought them the same time as all the other train stuff - 1949 thru 1951

Daryl, C Sam:
Nice work guys. Custom painting is fun, There is a lot of gratification creating something unique. I enjoy it almost as much as I do running trains. Most of the pictures I post on Weekend Photo Fun feature custom painted models.
The Photo I posted this week shows 3 custom painted models, The Rutland RS-3 and caboose, also the LNE boxcar on the siding.
