Re: Postwar 736...
"This old steam engine still has a lot of magic to share!"
Amen, brother. To me, the 736 was without a doubt the most handsome Postwar steam engine Lionel produced. Love the lines of it. Looks like a brute.
Shucks... all of the Postwar stuff still has a TON of "magic" to share!!! (Like your terminology there!)
Steaming through picturesque rural SouthSide Virginia:
A great engine and a magnificent set....I figured that if I were to own one engine/set of a non-Northeastern road, it had to be a good one!

Be careful running the smoke on that one. My roof started melting around the stack shortly after I bought it when first released.

Thanks Fred. I will make a note for the next buyer. Item will be sold in 2017. I know K-Line had several fire issues including passenger car lights. My friends set burn up and melted years ago.
I was told that the smoke unit didn't work on the fire accessory. I put in some of JT's Megasteam Eliminator in it and look at it now.Scott Smith

For an old dried-out Lionel non-fan driven smoke unit that didn't work at all-it's a vast improvement.

Photos from the St Paul Union Depot. Our modular club, the Granite City O gaugers are exhibiting here for the first time ever, Along with the ever so popular 261 who is busy taking children to and from the North Pole. This great holiday event has been very well attended, especially last night when we received a visit from the CP holiday train. Merry Christmas everyone!

After doing 3 fall shows after the last show I packed up from the show in November on the Sunday night and instead of unloading the van and trailer next day started to set up for the Polar Express event at our railway museum. The event is running over 4 weekends with long 12 hour days on the Saturdays, 8 hour days on Sunday. Getting lots of modeling projects done while attending to the layout. After a 1 hour train ride with characters from the Polar Express and a nice scenic ride the families come into the "North Pole" in the roundhouse with my large Christmas village upstairs lots of controls on the fence for kids to run the trains and operate accessories, a visit with Santa, Toy train making, letters to Santa, a ride on a mini rail train through a tunnel, snacks a movie theater with the Polar Express, food. This year we opened a 2nd building the car shop as an Ice Palace where kids can get into the cab of a steam engine a ring the bell and blow the whistle, mini golf Polar Express theme a bouncy castle and large wooden play train. We now have 6 of our own coaches, + a 1st class business car, and being sold out for all trains well ahead of time we were able to borrow a Rocky Mountaineer coach as well to open a few seats. A pair of F7 vintage locos at the front pull the train.
I have 8 Lion Chief trains for the kids to run, and 6 other trains looping around including Chuggington engines, an Williams Alaska engine, The Coors Light Silver Bullet, the Polar express with snow added to the roof, the hobo with a flickering fire, and bright red tail light. Overhead are planes, Santa and reindeer and Snoopy are flying. Hellgate, and wooden double track bridges and 2 more sets of bridges at the rear of the upper loop. I simplified the layout a bit by using my foam boards at the front with the green carpet and track attached from the other shows, and left more room this year to walk around. It left me with a few buildings to take home for my own Christmas Display in the front room. On the rear wall is a mountain / sky backdrop with star's and silver glitter to make it shine, and little lights that fade in and out as twinkling star's. Click on photos for a larger view.
Great work. Really like your garden layout.

Nice shot, but what's with the unblemished photo? Especially with innocent eyes looking on.
Another weekend is upon us and all of this eye candy is great for sore eyes and sore wallets. My finger hurts but that's ok. At least this isn't going to cost an arm or a leg!! Scott starts us off with a disaster in the making but takes us to church for reassurance.AG - River Leaf Models gives us closing and reopening. Alex M builds a factory and SIRT gives us juice and BAR GP7 #63 bring us to the Yard masters office. c.sam gives us Christmas past while walt rapp is building Christmas present( Hopefully on time and under budget). John Sethian gives us a Cadillac while tr18 brings us Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Baily Circus. kj356, Gilly@N&W, Putnam Division, Bandomnjr take us to shows. trumptrain, PennsyPride94, Christopher2035, Moonson , brwebster and Mark Boyce show off the O and 1/1 scale layouts. I know I missed a few but everyone's contributions are great and tomorrow's another day to look forward to..
The Only question in my mind is Scott takes us to Church then torches Childress Cash Food Market. Maybe they owner of the layout was behind on his or hers monthly dues??????
So here's mine contribution. A little 3rd Rail CB&Q action.

Thank you for the suggestion a few months ago! My wife and I think they look great! I'll post some photos of the finished layout next week. Oh, 12:04 am! It is already this week. Well I'm too tired to post them now; have to get up for Church. I'll post them later this week.

Scott FYI that building has a fan driven smoke unit in it. Check the power wires from that building it should be tied to the side of the relay coming from the HO power pack through the relay to the terminal block. The HO power pack only powers the smoke unit.
I built that fire scene....

It always worked better on the second cycle after the resistor heated up some.

The cardinals (red birds) in the trees a great touch!
This weekend I've been working getting my modules ready for the Holiday National Capital Tracker shows, 12/17-23 at College Park Airport Museum and 12/26-31 at Baltimore's B&O Railroad Museum. With the theme being Winter Holidays, the good employees at American Power and Light helped by decorating the power plant.

SUZUKOVICH,
I ran the FM with the top off briefly to check out a grinding noise coming from the chassis (which turned out to be just a loose screw), and it drew a serious crowd, so I decided to run it with the top off for a while to show off its guts. It also helps to cool the motors so I can run it longer without worrying about any sort of warping of the plastic shell. Have a great week!

Finally did a test run on one of my Sunset/3rd Rail SD9's. They run nicely and have very good sound. Seriously thinking about getting a pair of SD40-2's.
Dave O'Connor is continuing work on the narrow gauge area, adding to the waterfall area behind/under the curved trestles.
