Weekend Photo Fun 2/14/2020 to ???

Pictures and video show my Peter Witt Brooklyn trolley car #8454 made by Williams-Bachmann. This is a scale-sized and detailed model that would look best on an inner-city layout running at slow streetcar speeds. Has anyone built a city layout on which you run trolley cars?

I took a ton of pics at the WGH show last weekend in Chantilly.....most of my Standard Gauge pics are in the thread in the Tinplate Section.....here are the rest....

National Capital Trackers magnificent O Gauge set up....a very nice S Gauge layout that I seem too remember from the White Hall at York and some ingenious Lego layouts....

Some great modeling here.....as always, thank you to all the hard work it takes to set up and maintain the display.....

My new PRR F7s ABBA and hoppers.

And Lionel TMCC 606 J with Will Associates Super Chuffer and Chuff Generator boards.  Started adding passengers to the perfectly matching MTH passenger cars.

A short express train is leaving the yard early in the morning in late 1949.  The newly painted 50 footer will have that fancy Merchandise Service paint scheme only a few years before it goes to a cheaper, simpler, easier to keep clean scheme.

The engine is an AtlasO RS-1, the MTH 50' box is a simulation of an X41b, the next box is an AltasO X-29, the the third car is a Weaver B60.

Peter/Putnam Division:  Thanks for the WGH Chantilly photos.  I'm going to my first one tomorrow in Hampton so I now have some idea of what it will look like, albeit w/o National Trackers or SGA.

Love the Genco Olive Oil car.  What are the reporting marks, DVCX (don Vito Corleone)? 

QA&P Rwy. Fireman Dee Smith keeping an eye out on the lefthand side (in truth, watching for women) of this work-in-progress GP7. He always wore a western hat at work.  I tried to get his hair the correct color of silver/gray, but the figure wasn’t holding paint well.  Dee was part of the last full QA&P crew, and his photo is in the book, Quanah Route by Donovon Hofsommer. 

The next G&O Dinosaurs at the Depot train show is about a month away - March 14 and 15.  Here are some photos from past shows:

Another paint and lettering variation on this cylindrical hopper. The Springfield car shops are trying to use up a bunch of “oops paint” they bought on the cheap.  So far, no two cars in the fleet are alike.

OK, here's something kind of bizarre that I was working on today. I have to build an access hatch on a hillside. It's kinda tough to explain how I'm building it, but suffice it to say that it will be lined with plywood. The exterior will be hidden by three dimensional supertrees, but so the wood liner doesn't show up, I had to paint the exposed area with trees as I did on my backdrop. So here are photos of the piece of plywood used for the front portion of the liner with the trees painted on the exposed section. The first shows it in my workshop ready for installation, and the second shows it screwed in place. Note how the trees match those painted on the backdrop years ago. I know this looks rather weird, but I'll try to post more pictures as the project progresses to give you an idea of what's going on.

With the big kick off to the Nascar series this weekend, here are some photos of my Lionel Nascar trains at a show 10 years ago. Lionel had done some sets or part sets for various teams. I added some cars and made up my own team trains and added 1/64 cars and the truck and trailer sets. 

10 years ago locally we hosted the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Vancouver and Whistler. I posted some photos of the various trains from that time if you want to take a look for a full set of photos;

There was the Royal Hudson Steam train that ran to the US border on BNSF for the Olympic torch relay and the Rocky Mountaineer / Alberta Olympic train that ran to Whistler each day with a special paint scheme. Here are a few pics but follow the link for more.

After the Olympics, for the new Rocky Mountaineer 2010 season they introduced there new paint scheme; painting over the Alberta and old Rocky paint schemes. Here are some photos I did in 2010 of the O Gauge Rocky Mountaineer engines and dome cars that I built with the real train the first set out of the paint shop! I used MTH passenger cars bottoms, interiors, trucks and underbody details. I had a plastic shop bend the clear plastic for the shape of the domes then glue on ends then I wrapped the cars in an image based on photos that I had printed at truck decal shop. MTH recently released the this paint scheme on some engines and standard MTH passenger sets but to date these are the only O scale dome cars I know of! It was a lot of work! Rapido produced the domes in HO scale very well detailed for Rocky Mountaineer.

Carl, thank you........now that you live in Tidewater, we’d love you to come visit us when we have the big layout set up in the fall.....you’re just under 2 hours away.
