My Wife recently found a local online listing where someone was giving away three boxes of old Lionel trains.  We jumped on it and this is what we got.

An old 675.  It was very dirty and did not run.  After some cleaning and lubrication, it runs fast and strong.  It still needs a few parts.

Here are the cars.

Here is the track.  most of it looks un-salvagable.  There are several rusty switches in the bottom of the box.

Here is the ZW.

I have alot of work to do.

Finally ready to install this drumhead in the stairway going down from my train room to the first level. You will see it as you look straight ahead going down the stairs. I will post another photo when it is installed.

For thoes that were wondering, this is a full size drumhead, not a "O" gauge drumhead.

Alan Graziano has made more progress on the DME COAL MINE. In the pictures below you can see from the layout drawing that the DME COAL Mine is on the right side of the layout past the power plant.

In the picture of the retaining wall and coal cars you can see that this is the location of the DME Mine and Loading Complex.

You can see the in the pictures that the Mine building is a multiple stories and the loading area is about 4 feet long.

Alan it is starting to come together. Thank you.

SJC - They are PS3 but they do have a tether. However, these couple much closer than any RK units I've seen, and with the diaphragms between the units the tether isn't noticable really. My layout is conventional, but with the sounds I have been able to activate with my Z1000, I'm really impressed.

Question for Rich:

Did you use a new method to make these rocks? If so, will you describe it in your next video? They look great!

Thanks to everyone for posting.

Alex

Thanks Alex!  No new method.  It is the same technique shown in detail in part 1 DVD and also reviewed in part II.  No mountain construction in next one.  These mountains were done before the DVDs came out.  The more I did, the better I got.  Part II shows some improvements by adding foliage to the face.  This next photo is the last mountain or rock face I did and shows these improvements.  There is a significant amount of art involved, particularly with choosing which molded rocks to use and where to place them.  I try to keep a "grain" or consistent slant of the rock layers as you would see in the real world.  Small things like that make a big difference.  If you have any questions, just shoot me an email.

I got an e-mail from another forum member (Skip). He was having some issues with posting photos so he sent then to me. Here are his pictures.

CHEVY TRUCK PLANT

This incident happened in the Oshawa CP Rail yard which ships out the GM vehicles. One of the railcar men who attaches and detaches the car haulers, accidentally unhooked a set of train cars without having the brakes applied.

The Oshawa rail yard has a slight incline to it, so when the set of cars was unhooked from the
engine it started to roll down the hill, it smashed through the stop block and then through the
fence and continued into the parking lot where GM stores the new vehicles
that come off the line.   Over 300 vehicles were damaged.
I guess this is where the guy just takes his lunch box and goes home.
