Also went to a train show on Saturday & picked up a few goodies
Got a few more construction equipment flatcars for Lorenzo, so we now have enough for a whole train. He loves them - his 2 favorite things - trains & construction trucks!Another show find was this 2028 (I added the fuel tank) & a few cars to make set 1529 from 55 -
Running the Skylark from 54 -
The kids enjoying the trains -
On the way back from the show, I got lucky & caught A trio of NS widecab GEs leading 76M through Blythewood, SC on the R Line
With NS sending their B32-8s into storage & scrap, thought I would dig through the old photo archives & find a pic to post. When I lived in Chicago, they were pretty common on a few trains out there. Here's NS B32-8 3561 leading eastbound 34J through Otis on 10/25/08
NS Dash-9 9369 leads 21J out of Altoona w/ a bit of Fall color still hanging on the trees - 11/7/15
NS Dash-9 9456 leads 21M past Altoona Pipe & Steel in downtown Altoona - 11/8/15
Chris, I've been following your layout progress and it's looking really good. I have a new respect for postwar trains since joining this forum. After I'm done with my layout I'm going to build a small postwar layout. I also appreciate the Altoona/Cresson pictures!

Here's a corner of the layout I am particularly happy with - it may be my favorite spot. It is called Grange Road corner and is something I have been refining for several months, now, when I have had the inclination to get creative again with Moon Township.
A couple close-ups of the same area are posted...

I hope you like what you see.

Absolutely beautiful model of Union Station in Nashville. My wife and I stayed in the hotel there several years ago.

Yardman, That station is beautiful!! It would be great to hear how you built it and the other buildings in your city.
This Union Station is on a friend s layout. He had a model builder from Pa. come down and take pictures of it then he built it. My friend then went to Pa. and brought it home. When he first got it, it was on display in the real station where he used to work for the L and N RR.
Went to the NMRA all gauges train show in LaGrange, IL today. This is always a great show with some fantastic layouts on display and the Illinois Railway Museum and other clubs come to promote their events. This show is always packed with tons of families dispelling stories from those who think this great hobby is losing steam.
The Midwest TCA guys had a nice layout set up with an accessory section for hands on fun where kids could operate the forklift oil drum loader, the milk car, the log loader and the barrel loader. The guys even brought a bunch of nice bar stools for the kids to sit on. First class operation!!!

SJC posted:In keeping with my recent plan of reducing my command control collection of PS2 and PS3 engines and going conventional, I sold my nearly brand new MTH Imperial PS3 CSX ES44 and just purchased a Williams/Bachmann CSX SD90 from Mario. As of now, I plan to keep 4 (maybe, maybe, maybe 5) command control engines. One, the ES44 has been sold. Another, an MTH PS2 F3 is at my tech for conversion to Williams True Blast Plus electronics and sound. Another MTH PS2 steamer will likely follow.
I don't understand why you would sell PS2 engines or convert them to Williams since they will run under conventional control. They have way better sound and detailing. Williams is great, and I own quite a few. But, I wouldn't think of downgrading MTH engines to Williams.
You must have your reasons, and maybe you could explain that to me.
Thanks,

Thanks Yardman! It makes it even more cool that he worked there and then had the model made.

Thank you! In my opinion, you can go 2 ways with them - either try to make a realistic environment & run them that way ( which is a lot of fun & looks great - I've done it) or embrace the fact that they are toys & go w/ something that would look at home from the time they were first produced. Either idea works well for what it is. I like the history aspect of it & trying to create a window into the past so to speak. At some point, when my kids are older & I have more time to devote to the hobby, I'd like to try my hand at a hi rail pike again. What I'm doing now though is pretty easy & allows the trains to be operating & get a finished layout product up in a short amount of time. It also places the emphasis on fun w/ the placement of accessories & so forth
