Happy Friday!

Started working on the upper tunnel this week. - Should have it finished by this weekend

Picked up a postwar 746 & the cars to make set 2545W from 1959

2350 New Haven EP5 pulling some freight on the inside main -

The 746 running down the main w/ nice open throttle

Lorenzo wanted to run his Lionchief Polar Express & race the 746

Lucia watching the race - ( The 746 won!)

For the last few weeks my posts have centered around things that I did on the layout in memory of my recently deceased sister (Last week: https://ogrforum.com/t...95#55771436684747995).

I'll show one of the main tributes, if that's the correct word, this week.  Keep in mind that I only have a small point-and-shoot camera so it was quite difficult to get a good image of the screen.

What I did was take existing still pictures that I had and transferred them to a DVD.  I would display an image for 2 minutes, then the next, and then the next, etc. each for 2 minutes.  All along I played, and obviously captured, Christmas music by her 2 favorite artists: Johnny Mathis and Andy Williams.  The whole thing took about 30 minutes to cycle thru so I repeated that 30 minutes 3 more times to fill the DVD.

The DVD was then used in a portable player that I've been using in years past for my drive-in scene.  It was a really big hit with the family during my annual family Train Party that I host (26 people this year).  A few tears were actually shed, including some from yours truly!

So here are some of what was shown:

A New York Central passenger and the New York Ontario & Western Mountainer meet. No.......this is not on the West Shore in Cornwall or Weehawken. They are meeting  at the apocryphal Bronx Central Station on my pike. In my world the south Bronx became a major commerical and business hub and the NYO&W crossed the Hudson on the New Haven's Poughkeepsie Bridge and travelled into the Bronx on the Harlem Division of the NYC.

Still working on the latest DTD build.  Added a few signs, some vents, front door, etc.  Still need to go take a photo of the actual pizza shop sign in Philly that I will be using on the front.  The fire escape for the side door is all set to go, but I will install that last.  I also added a brass lamp (on the side), made by Andre G, and added some LED strips on the interior.   Vents and AC unit tone added to the roof as well.

No trains in sight as a bright red 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang races west on PA Route 103.  The scene is taken in the hamlet of Longfellow, PA in the summer of 1966.  The house is a stock Lionel structure, but a later release that was extremely well detailed with mortar lines, downspouts, awnings, and much more.  They went for the bargain price (IMHO) of about $65.  I built mine up on a cinder block foundation with an integral garage, ala typical Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  The small bridge is entirely scratchbuilt, and is typical of those constructed from the 1930's through 1950's.  Many are still around today.  Note the typical PA Dept. of Highways cable guide rail (referred to as "guard rail" in the other 49 states in the union as far as I know!)  with the white I beam posts.OGR_March_4

Scale General Models NW-2 - got it for 49 bucks! Complete! Woo-hoo!

1940's-50's, I guess, all die-cast body and "frame", brass and other metal details, dummy Hi-rail couplers (Selley and Keil-Line) - I may shorten the shanks. The front class lights even work - headlight is burned out.

But here's the most interesting part: Lionel trucks, rear plastic and front metal, a single little Pullmor motor of apparent MPC vintage, no E-unit and it runs only long-hood-forward. But, it runs smoothly and can run realistically (not cruise control-y) slowly.
