The first photo on today's post is of a train set up by my son Steven to portray a Montour Railroad coal train which of course never saw service on PRR's Middle Division. It was inspired by a talk we heard by Gene Shaffer at the RPM (Railroad Prototype Modelers) East meeting held here in the Pittsburgh area about two weeks ago:

I'm cheating a bit on the second image which was I posted a few days ago on a thread dealing with Lionel's new Amtrak F40PH. I liked the photo so much, I'm posting it again here:

All I've got is two little figures.... a girl and a fire hydrant that I've printed on my new 3d printer!  I'm working on many more things like people, mailbox, chair, table, phone booth, vending machines, etc....  The man on the right is an existing figure!  I didn't print him!  Just the girl and the hydrant.

The quality and strength of the printed items are much better than I expected.  The people are not as high quality as the nicer figures available for our layouts, but they are better than the cheap Chinese ones!  Plus, you can get many different people and not just a generic 10 you have to use over and over again.

I know some of you will ask, so I'm going to write a review of it in another post.  Keep your eyes open for it if you are interested in 3d printing because you might just pull the trigger when you read my review... or you might realize you are not up for it!

The figs look great!  In fact, I'll go so far as to speak what is heresy to some:  they look better than anything Artista ever turned out.

Just to clarify, I didn't print the guy on the right!  He is an existing figure used for reference.

One of our club members will shortly be relocating out of our area. So we decided to have a final Run Night for him. Gordon graciously volunteered to host the night. This was great as I always look forward to seeing the progress members have made on their layouts since our last visit. Gordon has been quite busy.

First up is a lift to allow access to hidden trackage.

This is obviously a work in progress. Next up (literally) is his lift bridge. He came up with a novel way to index the bridge and make electrical connections at the same time.

Here is one of his control panels. That I could do as well!

His downtown area is progressing nicely. The buildings are all lit.

He also installed a camera system to monitor his hidden trackage. Nice!

Here is shot of the gathering.

AMCDave, above:

"New this week......again didn't need it.....but for well under $100 I could not pass it up......I have one in N&W paint so this one runs in a different era on the layout. Williams did a nice job on these. thx"CONRAILEF

Yeah - electrics - I like, and I like the Williams E33. And for under $100...score. I think that Williams did a very nice job on the body tooling on these; I bought an older MTH version a few years ago (CR also) - PS1, so not expensive - under $100? No - but just under $150. I was heading toward the Williams version when I spotted the MTH, which does do a bit better in the truck and handrail departments.

Still, I see the Wms versions and get twitchy...

Good buy.
