Lima was an Italian manufacturer of model trains in N, HO and O scales. Beginning production of model railroad items during the early 50s, the company became best known for offering models of prototypes from a variety of countries and/or regions including North America, Great Britain, Continental Europe, Australia and South Africa. Lima production continued until 2004 when operations ceased. Lima is now part of the Hornby family of companies with manufacturing taking place in the Far East.
Pictured below are examples of Lima production in the form of a South African Railways Class 5E1 electric locomotive and accompanying passenger carriage. As models of SAR equipment are not easy to come by in any scale, Lima's SAR production is seemingly in constant demand in all corners of the globe. It's certainly not found very often in the states.
