As a kid I would see lots of C&O Chessie coal hoppers when we went to visit my grandparents. I tried to order a set a few years back but the dealer I ordered the set from went out of business. At York I found this nice set of 6 Railking diecast C&O Chessie coal hoppers.

These pics were on the 3 rail scale forum but may be of interest here also. The conversion is to Kadee couplers without fixing the pilots and mounting to the trucks themselves. the smallest curve I have is 48" and there still seems to be room. The Lionel coupler has been removed but is completely reversible. I used layers of .060 ssheet plastic to make a "tongue" for mounting the Kadee. Sorry for the rotation, don't know why.

The Illinois Central rolled through our area in a big way this week.

Headed by an ABA of IC E8s was the City of New Orleans while a Nickel Plate Road Berkshire made a fast run with the Panama Limited.  What a sight to see all those handsome chocolate, orange, and gold passenger cars!

WELCOME TO THE WORLD...JULIA ROSE...future model railroader!  Our oldest daughter and her husband gave birth to their third daughter, Julia Rose...obviously our third granddaughter.  She arrived at the station on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 8:54 am.  She weighed in at 8 pounds even and was 19" long...all fingers and toes accounted for.  That means I will have to create a third K-Line by Lionel #6-21358 Special Addition, "It's a Girl!" boxcar with her facial decal.  Two are already made. Let's see...mom and three daughters...that's a lot of estrogen for my son-in-law, Fred...to handle!

My tear down of one end of the Texas layout is complete, large mountain and scenic walls are gone.  I'm working on re-arranging the wiring now with new control panel.  Should be installing new 027 curves on this end next week.  Just two more corners to go after this then construction begins on my new Army base and yard.

Sorry about blurred photo's, a little shaky after 2 hours under layout working on wiring.

Matt:

Warm congratulations to your daughter and son-in-law, and to you and your wife on your newest Grandchild. This is a very special time for your family. You will find that time will past by quickly and they will grow up before you know it. We have only one grandchild and she is getting married in September. It seems like yesterday when she was born.

Steve:

WOW, when you attack a renovation project, you rally mean business. Thanks for a look at your progress.

That skyscraper is 100% made out of LEGO.  Don't know if it was solid or hollow though.  Only the Steel City LEGO User Group knows for sure...

Former Alabama Power Porter fireless steamer; used to be in Mobile when I was a kid,

and I used to get to crawl all over it when it was in service in the 50's - early 60's

(my father worked for the Power Company). It was used to switch coal hoppers at

Chickasaw Steam Plant.

It has been saved and now sits in Tarrant (Birmingham), Alabama, unfortunately. But,

it's still here.
