The weekend is here and that means it's time for WEEKEND PHOTO FUN!!

Last night my son and I did a little father-son replace the bad Lionel smoke units project.

At the end of our fun evening we only got one of the new units to work (the one he did)

Let's see your pictures.

Here are some more photos.  The area depicted is the stretch of the former "Standard Railroad of the World" that ran along the west bank of the Susquehanna from Enola (near  Harrisburg) north towards Duncannon PA.  The tracks were easily accessbile by car from adjacent US Routes 11/15 and are the location of many railfan photos over the years.  Most famous among the railfan sites was the "Iron Bridge", offically known as Overview Road bridge at the northwestern end of Enola Yard.  The steel bridge depicted was built around 1900, closed in the 1990's, and demolished and replaced with a modern bridge in the early 2000's.  I had the privilege of driving over the original bridge when it was still in service.

My favorite shot of the bunch is the one showing the Iron Bridge from below.  Note how I modeled the floor system, including the floor beams and stringers.  The bottom of the deck actually sits above the top of the lower chord of the pony truss, realistically allowing daylight to pass betweent the deck and the truss.  As we modelers around here like to say, "often seen, seldom modeled..."

The row buildings are my attempt at using compression to give the illusion of depth between the train station and the El station. The space is about 4 inches wide. I bought some card stock buildings from a forum member, cut them up to make a street front montage, and glued the montage to 1/8 inch thick cardboard. To prevent warping, 69-cent wood yard sticks stiffen the backside of the montage. The chimneys and vent pipes are made from soda straws.

This somewhat mimics the 61st Street Station in Woodside, where the El crosses over the Long Island Rail Road. Don't go picking on my spelling of railroad because the Long Island did it that way.

After a heavy rainfall eroded the mound at the end of the siding, look what was uncovered. Don't go thinking Jeffrey Dahmer was there! Actually, a local clothier decided to dump his window mannequins down by the tracks. The  mannequins caused quite a stir when the rear brakeman on a commuter train backing into the siding  saw the limbs and radioed the police.

The Steinway Lines is just one of the trolley lines that served Woodside. IT was taken-over by the Third Avenue Railway of New York City, so Third Avenue cars also are seen on the Steinway Lines. The kiosk leads to an El station.

I've already been to the store for a few more pieces of Fastrack and switches for the new layout... using the old benchwork with a few added pieces.  I realize I'll probably be moving in a year or two so I won't do a new benchwork job til then!

Neil, your trackside scenery is awesome. Some of those pictures look like they are out of prototype magazines.

Bobby, Your forced perspective is looking good; how about another string of buildings behind the El?

Peter, Can't wait for more progress pictures on that subway. I see that you also used Mianne Benchwork; I am glad that I did.

Alex, That ferry just keeps getting better and better. With all this rain that we are having you could give it a float test!  I had some friends over the other night; and they can't stop talking about my Penn Station that you built. I can't wait to get that second level going, so that I can install it properly.

Steve,

Congratulations on becoming a GrandPa! Great work on that derelict streetcar. I couldn't help noticing the background. Is that your photo work or a commercial banner? I have been struggling to find a suitable banner or prime spot to shoot a backdrop for Penn Station. I was thinking about Queens near the Citicorp buliding; then someone suggested Weehawken.

I'm posting a photo taken of B&O T-3 #5584 crossing over the Susanna River as it steams north out of Maryville.  I don't know for a fact, but I have been told fishing is good along the river.  At least one fellow, seen beneath the bridge, is out giving it a try!  Have a great weekend!

and Steve, congratulations on becoming a grandpa!  Bo

Thanks a bunch Guys. Lucas will be at my daughters home today.

I have an old set of Lionel MPC Chessie cars set aside for him with a GP-20 as his starter set.

Guess I can start a new layout now that folds up against their 3 car garage wall.

Plenty of room at this house.

Cant wait to start it!

Steve

My latest LED upgrade. I devised a better method of mounting LED strips since much more of the interior ceiling is visible on the Sightseer Lounge.

A closeup of the interior. I'm going to use this method on the rest of my MTH passenger cars since it works so well. The actual mounting method is detailed on page 4 of the 300-LED rope light thread .
