At the back end of the museum area I saw this engine and passenger car that has seen better days;

There are plans to redo their train layout this fall; they have great looking buildings but they lack scenery.

                         a train derails not to far from  where I live last night...

SWANTON, Ohio (WTVG) - Police in Swanton continue to investigate Friday morning after a crash Thursday night which derailed 13 cars and knocked out power to thousands.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the westbound train struck a Chevy Tahoe that had been abandoned on the tracks on Main Street north of US 20A. In addition to the 13 train cars and the Tahoe, three other parked or abandoned vehicles were struck by debris from the initial crash.

According to Swanton fire chief, Mike Wolever, around 10:30 p.m. the Tahoe, being driven by a female, turned onto the tracks and stopped in the middle. He believes that the same vehicle had hit a power pole, knocking out a transformer beforehand.

The train cars were empty shipping containers heading to Chicago.

A propane tank on the ground was venting, prompting some evacuations.

No evacuation order was in effect as of 11:30 p.m.

One witness said he heard the crash from two miles away.

Dave NYC Hudson PRR K4 news report said the switch was thrown to a siding track and the train entered the siding at speed, they usually travel threw there about 50 to 55 MPH. Looks like the side track couldn't handle the speed and load. This happened just as the train was leaving the east end of town, could have been a lot worse.

Wow, that's not good. Could definitely been a lot worse.

The last thing left to do is to get the engine motor professionally cleaned. Then I'll post a running video......

Peter, the video below shows the Postwar Santa Fe 616 switcher in action:

I think it's one of the best vintage switchers: a good puller with heft and Magnetration, and it has a horn. Arnold

IIRC, the crew are volunteers, and great ones at that. Number 60 only runs when they are available. They have a few diesels that run, one of the a Pennsylvania switcher so steam runs are always a good thing. I believe they have only had a few instances where 60 wasn't running as scheduled. I've sort of wondered if they would ever get a second steam engine, I doubt it, but it would be interesting to see.
