Running around the refinery.

A tanker consist crosses the Potomac from Maryland into Harpers Ferry.  In the movie (referred to above) hear the horn as it echoes through the valley.

Rail road equipment on 52nd street in NYC.  The company is based in Paterson, NJ, about 5 miles from the NJhighrailers, coincidence?

The new Lionel SD40-2 Frisco units. The color seems a little more red than in the Atlas units I have. Frisco was supposed to be Mandarin Orange, I believe, and as can be seen in the first pic next to an Atlas ATSF Dash 8, it pretty much matches the Santa Fe red... Still, happy to have anything Frisco, and I just pretend Frisco got a bad batch of paint or poor lighting.

here is the Atlas Frisco GP 35 #728 behind the Lionel SD40, the color difference is apparent even with the bad lighting.

Sam, I like your FRISCO engines. I agree about the color, but I also agree that I will take most anything that is FRISCO.

Here is a 'before' shot of an area that we are about to start a major renovation project installing a long stone viaduct on either side of the Hellgate Bridge. It will be about 14-15 feet long when finished. My broken ankle has me hindered from getting under the layout at present, but I'm hopeful that I can get started soon. The bridge itself is being painted in our living room with the CFO's able assistance!

Well it finally arrived after 3 weeks in customs,Thanks to you all for the heads up re the blowout sale.

A 2011 Christmas layout memory

Painted up a Lionel Legacy-equipped S-2 as PC 9850 for forum member PC9850

I like to get a little creative with corners on my layout. Here I repurposed a Lionel #192 railroad control tower to serve as a forest fire lookout tower atop a mountain. They were common in the mountains of western PA where I grew up.

Very nice Doug. Both the theme and your scenery make for first class viewing.

Corners are hard for me at my age due to the "reach" in my round-the-room 9x16 layout. Nevertheless I am installing a Frick Model Sawmill in one corner and a Cotton Mill in the other. Progress is slow and I have much work left for completion. 

Here are a couple pics, the first is one of my Challengers running around the new layout I'm building and the sencond is an expanded 793 station that I put together:

Wow!  Some of these pictures are so awesome they make me ashamed to post mine!  But just so guys like me know the novices are out there.... here's a few.

Busy scene!  A lot going on here, from the rally on top of the mt, to the fire in the old warehouse below!

The downtown street is alive and well, though one of the rally car navigators is way off course!

Add me to the novice section, this layout is now down, and a new one is in the works.

I finally placed risers between the rails to work the corners, then placed a plywood platform covered with a quilt . Now I just crawl up and work while on my knees. Much less strenous but I have to clear a few structures off the layout first for placing the platform. This is the "other" corner where a main structure will sit and many building fronts will reside along the wall. Joe Fauty of Model Structures is assembling me a Kober Mill Building along with building the fronts as indicated by the colored footprints.

BB-1 Electrics looking for some passenger cars on my carpet central. Actually they are looking for some catenary too!

The passenger cars arrived for my Lionel Corporation Tinplate 262E...

I see what you mean with the corner ‘reach’ problem. That’s an ingenious resolution. My layout is an 8x16 rectangle with one 16’ edge against the wall. My “reach” issue is with the center of the layout. I’m currently working on a pulley system to lift the two 2’x4’ center access panels. They have become too heavy for this old guy to lift anymore. I also bought a Topside Creeper to help me reach some areas.

BTW I see we both joined the forum within three days of each other back in '01.

tackindy: your profile says you're from Tennessee but your picture has something wrong about it - something that would not be seen in TN.  Maybe in Europe or some other country!  Or is the picture somehow inverted?

Oooooo!  Nice catch!  It took me a while to figure out....... well lets make it a game and see if the others can see my goof?  But then, I don't model any particular place, railroad, or time.... but that is definately something you wouldn't see anywhere around here!
