The town of Atmore, Alabama, near the Florida line, north of Pensacola (FL) and NE of

Mobile. The first photo is on the Alabama Gulf Coast (now a subsidiary of G&W, along

with everything else), train heading South toward Pensacola on the old Frisco line. I

find the road name on the first unit (now repainted) to be amusing, considering that

this photo was taken in the Heart of Dixie (Alabama's slogan):

Same spot, same day. The train timing could have been better. The CSX train is 

Southbound to Mobile from Montgomery on the old Louisville & Nashville.

 

Atmore AL is actually a substantial small town of several thousand people in slightly

rolling countryside, and has this interesting crossing involving two railroads and US Hwy 31. It begs to be modeled. The "urban" area is mostly out of sight in the distance:

Good real life scene. Now here is the same scene to a model railroader...have them all at once! That's more like it...

Continuing on the Great Allegheny Passage.
Early morning Confluence, Pa.  Yes the fog is a bit much. Humidity at 100%

The fog quickly burns off.

Detour around the close Pinkerton tunnel.  The downed trees are for the CSX tunnel, that parallels the Pinkerton tunnel.  CSX tunnel was Day-lighted late 2011/2012.

After lunch, Garrett, PA, on to the Salisbury viaduct.  Some preferred to walk across.

CSX main and US Rt 219 below.

Quick break at the Meyersdale Station which is also a small museum.

From here up to the continental divide.
A transplanted Bowman cast steel bridge.  It was originally on the other side of Meyersdale, with in sight, of the Salisbury viaduct.

Keystone viaduct. Western Maryland RR. that bridges over CSX mainlines to Sandpatch.

Up to Sandpatch.

Downhill, through the Big Savage Tunnel, there are lights and doors.  The tunnel is closed during bad weather months.

Maryland, Note the bare cliff area is very close to Cumberland.  We will spend the night in Frostburg, MD, half way down the mountain.

That's me!  We moved from Colorado out to southern California.  That ceiling layout is no more (it's now a very nice around the room shelf), and the layout out here is actually a 8x10ish table in the garage.  We're renters out in CA, but I'll eventually do a bigger/better ceiling layout again when we settle down in our "forever" home.

 

....and you're right, that bridge in the foreground is also a Bridgeboss. It leads to a 4' girder bridge on our main loop.

Now, I sit aboard PV Mount Vernon. Our scheduled departure at 3:40 has come and gone. A rockslide at Peekskill has caused delays, and we have no idea for how long. But, at least I am on a PV, with a comfortable bedroom. I may be asleep before we leave New York!
