I built my layouts with hills, valleys and structures close to the tracks. As a train passes near them, this makes its movement more noticeable than if the surrounding scenery were flat and further away. One such feature on my 12’-by-8’ layout is a narrow curved cut between two low hills that is barely wide enough for the track.

East end of my Eola yard with the three-track mainline (race track) to the right. Track one is showing red because there is a train sitting on it just out of sight beside the Milwaukee Road F unit sitting on track four in the yard. The other two mainlines are clear with green signals. The train on track one is waiting for a meet with a west bound BNSF Z train.

Great scene, Ted...the trash truck to the left of the track looks real, as does the bus etc.! Mack or International maybe?
Chasing a MTH P5a consist around the layout.
Yes, that is my P5a Boxcab with the zinc pest. Check out my post in Front End Friday.
A great way to spend Saturday Norm.
Spending the day in the basement, working on miscellaneous layout details. I’ve been so focused on the larger projects such as tunnel liners and accessory wiring that I’ve neglected the smaller projects. Starting to look like a layout anyway.
