Mike ,lucky wife!
Still out on the trail
Haven't contributed much lately. Here's a couple of shots from around the layout:
“New Dorp”
Cold one Clark?
“Next stop, New Dorp”
Sirt,
That station scene looks like the LIRR in Queens. Nice work!
Alan, how do you get to the trains in the wall displays?
Always enjoy pictures of your layout!
PRRronbh.....the wall displays on that side of the room have mostly my postwar, etc. collection that I don't run often but when I do they are only 4 feet away from the edge of the layout. I have one of those neat ladders that suspends enough so I can reach the wall. Also, this is in the yard area and if needed, moving a few of the cars in the yard, allows me to walk up and down that area on top of the layout.
Alan
Looking forward to seeing all the great pics this week.
Our local railway hosted an employee's family day event and inside the engine shops our local railway museum attended with a ride on Mini rail, the local model railway clubs attended a G layout and our clubs O layout, I brought along a few loops of track and trains that I set up on the engine shops floors. There were other various displays from the Police and emergency services, vehicles from the railways fleet, there own special rubber tire ride on train even had a control stand from a real train inside the cab, bouncy castle. They had a loco open you could go through the cab of, and part of the shops were open with displays showing how the locos are maintained and what the different parts were on a loco and motors. A rebuilt motor was open and on display inside an engine that had just been rebuilt they had it with an air piston turn the crank slowly so you could see the cam shafts and crank move.
Rocky Mountaineer the tour train loaned a locomotive and 3 coaches to give folks a ride through the rail yard a ways. Great event for the railway employees families the kids loved it, lots stopped by to see the model trains. Here are some photos;

1 Real engine you could walk through cab,
2/3 O Club layout
4 my trains on the shop floor
5/6 cool ride on rubber tire train built by railway
7 Power on my layout quick setup; 5 loops of track, Long Freight/Passenger/Williams GG- 1's pulling Circus trains/4 Old Lionel Geeps pushing-pulling Snow plows.
8 Rebuilt real loco engine turned over slowly to see how it worked
Last 3 pics a railway employee suggested my Geeps were not safe as no safety reflective tape on the sides. I added a strip of the tape on the sides and steps of the locos when I got home, looks great! ( had considered getting rid of these old MPC era geeps to get some new Lionel or MTH versions just released but hummm perhaps $1400 for a new set, with the new tape looking so good, think I can get by with the old set to pull the snow plows.)
Steve, your scenes are great - I particularly like your river set up. And that tavern looks very inviting.
I'm working on the area between the tracks below, looking for some good 'trash' to add but haven't found as yet - old tires, broken shopping cart, etc.
In the meantime, I'll keep playing with trains 'til the cows come home.
Steve
The gradson was here this week for a visit, and of course I had to continue his "Train Training." At 9 months old Nolan enjoys watching the trains, especially my red Frisco E8's.
Have a good weekend,
Richard and Nolan
Richard just a great picture and he will be a great engineer. I bet he will have a new train set for Christmas. I trained my granddaughter at about three years old and she is now 13 and run my trains as good as me.
Great pictures everyone and I really enjoy this thread every week.
Very nice, Alan. That livery works! It really looks good on the U30, Rock's.
It's hard to tell from your photo's... does your overhead power feed(wiring) zig-zag back-and-forth, like the real stuff? I heard it's done that way to spread out the wear, caused by friction..., on the locomotives power pick-up bar. That way... the contact point is always changing.
I like nicely modeled electric operations. That industrial look...
Rick
A 2011 Christmas layout memory
My Mother and Father both worked at the 'W' so this sign is really special. The flat is made up of scrap Plasticville parts. I can't seem to find a good way to keep the sign vertical - which is obvious in this 1st picture. "Temporary" makes many things difficult!!!

Over the past few weeks I built platforms around the Roundhouse tracks. I used "Skinny Sticks" from WalMart. Skinny Stiks can be found in the craft section of WalMart. They are 1/4 inch wide and are good for sumulating 12 inh wide planks.
Humm, not sure how to get the pictures in order, the last picture is the construction process.
Have a good week end,
Richard
I've been building a few flatcar loads lately....
Got a few Corgi trucks for only $10 a piece! Had to buy them!
Wabash bus..... once again only $10!
An MTH flatcar off thE Bay for $11, plus some of my existing construction equipment!
I know the Hummer doesn't line up with the wheel chocks, I'll fix it soon. But the Coast Guard equipment on an Alaska flat car was just the perfect load!
A Huey I built from a model kit. It's always been my favorite helicopter. I rarely run this one and will sell it soon I think, but its cool.
Though I didn't research and do this prototypical, I took apart my four Trailer Train cars and painted the center beam black, and wheels trays silver. It just looked better to me.
Great pictures everyone. Richard, love the roundhouse area. Next time we are in Memphis perhaps we can get a in person look??!!
Rick B. Thanks! The Rocks are MTH units. The catenary is also MTH so I can't take the credit for scratch building it. Believe you me...the wire does zig and zag as in the prototype but I didn't do it on purpose if you know what I mean!. I know a lot of folks think that the MTH system is a little chunky looking but in person with some painting/weathering which I will be doing, this is a great system....and....I simply didn't have enough time to construct the several hundred poles that I needed...
Thanks,
Alan
Richard, GREAT picture of you and grandson. I bet he will get to know that room very well over the years.
Your Roundhouse area is looking very sharp. Keep up the good work.
GREAT PHOTOS EVERYONE, JUST INCREDIBLE
BOBBY OGAUGE THAT STATION ON SIRT'S LAYOUT IS NEW DORP TRAIN STATION ON STATEN ISLAND. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE IT IN PERSON BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER GOES TO COLLEGE RIGHT NEAR WHERE SIRT LIVES.
HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE HERE'S MY PHOTO
Hey Bill.....OH Boy, OH Boy....its like Christmas isn't it!!??
Alan
Rebuilt one of the new Santa Fe reefers to match the "opposite opening" hatches.
It is now on its way to a new home.
I also finished 2 SOO "drovers" cabs and I am having an SW painting party.
Great photos everyone, very inspiring!!!
Alan,
The first time I saw those red, yellow and grey U30 Rocks was when someone from this forum posted a picture of them, taken at York, a few years ago. They instantly caught my eye. I have one, in the BN livery, from a run or two prior to the Rock Island production run(with the same new tooling). One of my favorites!
I like the look of the Rocks, even better.
Nice LOAD, Bill.
Alex,
I like your TUG. I like tugboats!
Too bad nobody has a steam shovel, cause I like those, too.
Rick

The original New Dorp station is still on Staten Island in historical "Richmondtown".
HBO has been filming some scenes for Boardwalk Empire in Richmondtown.
A pair of 3R boxcars in various stages of completion for a forum member and a 3RS SD40-2 waiting to get stripped and detailed.

Early morning meet @ JK -
Patrick beautiful scene with a beautiful engine. One of the most beautiful steam engines ever made.
Thanks, Alex
Hi Russ,
Is all of your curved plywood done with your shop bot? We just got ours up and running. Now if I can find the time to draw some stuuf to cut it out.
I saw your building with the brick on the shop bot forum. It's given me alot of ideas. Nice work.
Here are pics of my turntable bridge rebuilt for 2 rail. And when our shop bot arrived. I don't have anyother decent pics of the shop bot together.
Ralph
This past weekend, I started a smoke fluid storage and tank car loading facility...
done with your shop bot?
You have a PM. Russ
