WEEKEND PHOTO FUN is here!

Labor Day weekend was a big weekend at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. The 611 was fired up and visitors had a chance to get in the cab and blow the whistle.

While that went on I was running trains on the O-Gauge layout;

This is The Model Railroad Shop in Piscataway, NJ. Opened by Mr. Howell Day of Red Ball Models fame in 1933, we now believe this to be the oldest continually operated train store in the country. Walking into the store is a wonderful experience as it is a treasured link to our hobby's illustrious path. Decorated with railroad memorabilia and stocking a full line of equipment and supplies, the store is about as close to Heaven on Earth as I can get! And, of course, the store is a long time stockist of O Gauge Railroading magazine and other OGR merchandise.

I see that you're using the TWTrainworx elevated railway girders/rails.  I like those.  What did you use to make the enclosed ladder on the left?  Is that something you ordered from Plastruct?

Yes, I ordered these from Plastruct....I do not recall the items #. But it is listed as an enclosed ladder, I think.

I was toying around with some trains a few weeks ago on getting them on display. My 2002 Boy's Train 2018, my 1958 2037 and my 1991 Girl's Train 8016.   It makes me wish for a bigger display area.

Nice display! Bigger? All diagonal? Stacked? Or a large opening in the wall behind the 2037?

I'll take that one...and that,,,oh and that one too....

Last Sunday was my birthday and since my wife wanted to get some presents for our niece's birthdays next week, we headed to Shelburne Falls MA and its great artist's galleries.

The water level in the glacial potholes was very low. Even when the hydroelectric generating dams upstream we letting out water there was almost no flow.

After shopping for a while we walked to the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum and were able to catch the last ride of the day. The last ride is great, since it includes the trackage to the car barn.

For those not in Massachusetts, about 25 years ago, the 1896 Shelburne Falls -Colrain combo car was found in a farmer's yard minus trucks and electrical gear. It has been restored and is now running on about 1/4 mile of track in the old Buckland Rail Yard which is where the original trolley terminal was. The museum recently raised enough money to build a new carbarn so now the car is in safe storage at night.

The museum itself has relics from the trolley line, an On30 trolley layout, and O-gauge layout, and a Brio Layout. All the layouts can be controlled by visitors.

The car itself has been reproduced in Brass for HO and a wood/plastic kit for O that can be powered for 2 or 3 rail.

Can't beat Piscataway. Living 10 minutes from it really helps. Plus it's close to the Lehigh Line and Port Reading Secondary. Why wouldn't you go here? Oh right, they won't sell me the EMD paint scheme concept of a Raritan River SW900. Ah well. There's always the Big Little RR shop in Somerville.

Just when I thought I had all the Trainmaststers I need I had to see this photo. Well maybe someday when I have the funds and more room. Really nice shop, I wish I lived close to a shop like that or maybe it is better that I don't.

Nice photos everyone.

I have been making progress working with Terry Christopher of Custom Signals to design and install a double track, bidirectional signal system for my layout that is under construction.  I plan to have some bridge signals, and at the advice of Neal Schorr, I began splicing two Plasticville bridges together to create one of the signal bridges.  Here is an in-progress photo of the trusses coming together on the 16" wide bridge.
