Spending the weekend with Grandma & Grandpa • A photo album from Michigan

1 C&O Boys

The boys are running two LionChief Plus locomotives.  Ages 5 & 4, the best way for little engineers to operate a model railroad. 🚂

2 Pizza 11.49.52 AM

We are now making railroad style pizza 🍕 and my brother does not like pizza, so he is going to have a peanut butter sandwich and corn on the cob. 🌽

3 Train Plate

We are having the peanut butter sandwich on a paper train plate with fresh strawberries.

4 O Scale Structures

The boys are painting “O Scale Flat Structures” for the haunted house city on the layout.

5 Switcher

Running our favorite Milwaukee Road Switcher.

6 Night Work

View from the yard tower on the night shift.

Camera: iPhone 11 Pro & Post-production: Adobe Photoshop

Thanks for taking a look & have a great weekend: Gary

What great memories you are making!!!!!

Peter

1st week post York......some PostWar sets

From the 62 catalog set 11212, the Cyclone Diesel Freight and from the 61 catalog set number 1648, the Supply Line Steam Freight.

These are sets that I needed to complete. I had the basic parts. Friends and co-workers are always giving old trains that they no longer want. York is a good place to find that needed PostWar car.

On the lower level is the New Haven set from 1962 (11232, I think), I previously bought at York years ago since I wanted a set with all 4 of the Lionel PostWar New Haven engines.

Thanks for the PSA ... Great idea Peter!!  A great way to spread the word about our wonderful hobby!

A former family doctor of mine ( now deceased ), I learned after some years, that he was a model railroader at heart when I brought a copy of O Gauge Railroading to an appointment.   Until then I had no idea he was a train guy.   He had actually had a OO scale layout at one time when he was practicing in the UK.  He never had time to construct one upon coming to the US.  He would actually go to a Hornby website and construct and run a virtual layout on that site.    He and I had many wonderful conversations about model trains and I would occasionally would bring him a Model Railroader magazine, which he loved!  He certainly had the train bug .... building a layout was just a matter of time.... unfortunately has passed away due to a freak accident.    I know he would have been on board with train magazines in his office.   As per your PSA ... I will take some extra mags when I go to my next doctor appointment.  Thanks for the idea!

Peter,

Before I retired from practice, I did have a subscription sent for a model railroad magazine sent to the office. Not sure how many patients actually read it, but I completely get what you are doing. I also posted a train calendar in every exam room, and found that a number of my patients were model railroaders, and I'm still friends with several of them after all these years.

Neal......I have 2 exam rooms and in each is one of the NJHR calendars. I probably got the idea about calenders in the exam rooms a few years back from you!

I saw this car just as I was leaving York last week...very eye catching, and I missed it in the catalog. After confirming its accuracy by posting questions about it on the OGR Forum, I had to have it. It showed up Wednesday. Perfect fit for my mid 1960's PRR consist.

Neal, I also like the building in the background of your above photo. Arnold

IMO, this is a very entertaining thread this week.

Patrick, you really have a knack for doing scenery in autumn colors, which I believe is trickier than green scenery in the Spring or Summer. One or 2 more of your above photos would make very nice postcards.

Gary, the photos of your grandsons are priceless. What fun you must have with them playing with the trains.

Peter, the photos of the beautiful York layout are stunning and full of fun. I particularly like the one with the dinosaurs in the  Jurrasic Park Zoo. Arnold

Arnold,

Those buildings were made by Chooch about 12 years ago. We finally painted and mounted them. They were made in very limited numbers (50 or 100). You could buy all four walls, but knowing that I would mount them on the backdrop, I just purchased the back walls. Painting and assembly was done by my friend Mark Vinski who works on the layout with me every Tuesday. As you can tell, he is quite the craftsman. My contribution was the weathering. Here's another shot of the same area that I posted a few weeks ago before the track was ballasted...

Yes I agree very convincing

Happy Saturday, great seeing all the photos and videos.

Gary, looks like your grandkids were having a good time and well on their way to becoming train fans.

We watch our 14 month old grandson once a week so a week ago we took him to the Mill Mountain zoo to ride the little train they have there.  Hope he get's the train bug like PaPa.
