The small Italian company Elettren started making 3-rail tinplate trains shortly after WWII, now the third generation is still making 0 gauge trains but a shift has been made to more 2-rail  scale models. Here are some pics of the 3-rail tinplate CIWL (European luxury train) pullman car, restaurant and sleeper made in the 1950's by Elettren:

Elettren is famous for their interiors; see the copper pans in the kitchen!

And here you can see the Elettren CIWL train running pulled by an Elettren pacific locomotive:

For this weekend something that you don't see very often in Europe. Pictures of an old Marklin layout taken around summer 1938 in an old castle of Normandy in France.

Sorry for the pictures quality, they are the only things which survives the destructions of world war two. The castle has been used by the german occupation army and finally bombed just before D Day by allied planes in 1944.

Today none of this is still in existence, but who knows maybe someone has taken care of the trains and they are in collections. That was a very nice carpet layout owned by a healthy owner .

Way to go with the interurban Chris, that looks great.  Serious pantographs.  Fun to make your own and you get to decide how to trim it out!  Would love to see some more pictures of it, if you feel so inclined.

Fred, very beautiful 1st class CIWL in amazing condition, thank you!

Thank you, David. Although some 60 years old you will find Elettren tinplate cars normally in good condition. I think since they were highly priced kids only were allowed  to play with these under adult supervision. Further the quality of the finish proofs to be durable. Since I like the interiors very much here some more pics of these:

the dishes, the toy lamps... WOW!

Greg, I love that Flyer Hiawatha... that loco/tender thing has gotta be the weirdest design any toy train maker ever came up with, but it has its own cachet, you know?

Lewrail, in addition to that gorgeous City of Denver, those are also some great shots of Hornby tinplate.  That's the nicer (later) signal gantry, it's an impressive structure.

Thanks Fred.  That's definitely a step up from my Hornby CIWL Le Train Bleu coaches, which are pretty basic by comparison.
