Hey three rail tinplaters! May we start this up again please?? Have not been on OGR for quite a while, but this was one always of my favorite topics to look for each week. Yeah, its a Thursday, but I'll kick off the weekend a little early anywho.

short Vid#1 An original Wide Gauge BOUCHER 2222 locomotive with its original Wide Gauge BOUCHER Pennsylvania tender, pulling four original Wide Gauge DORFAN litho freight cars; the boxcar, tank car, Pennsy hopper, and caboose.

short Vid#2 An original 1931 Wide Gauge AMERICAN FLYER Brass Piper bell ringer locomotive, with an original AF 1931-1932 tender, pulling an original Wide Gauge AMERICAN FLYER "Warrior" set, three red decal passenger cars.

These are seen on The VintageHubby's new WIDE GAUGE/STANDARD GAUGE on-the-floor Basement Layout.

Carey,

The reason why this weekly post was stopped, is that the moderators moved the topic to the Miscellaneous Forums - Photo and Video Albums heading due to the high number of photos/videos.  Eventually the post was changed from a weekly post into the now long-running Tinplate Photos and Videos topic, to which you have regularly been posting photos.

So the issue is going to be that if you post this topic under 3 Rail Tinplate Toy Trains, the moderators are going to move it to the Miscellaneous Forums, where there is already a long-running post for tinplate photos.

Okay. Thanks for the info and update, NWL. Thought it would still need to be under 3-Rail Tinplate category, so it didn't get lost and buried or thrown into a everything including the kitchen sink/Misc Forums category, not being exclusively tinplate.

A lot of people were upset when the post was moved, but there was nothing they could do as it was the moderators' decision.  The person who was creating the post weekly, finally created the long-running post that now exists, as it was a bit easier to find, as opposed to the weekly posts which tended to get lost.

Is wide gauge and standard gauge the same thing?

Cool videos!! I have no content to contribute but this leg of O gauge railroading does fascinate me.

"Standard Gauge" was copyrighted by Lionel I believe. Its generally become the part of the generic nomenclature for this gauge of toy trains. Other manufacturers such as American Flyer used the term "Wide Gauge", Ives had theirs as "2-1/4- Gauge", others much more knowledgeable than I with the history will surely add to this... I look forward to hearing more about it!

Since the new Basement Layout has lots of American Flyer pieces and Dorfan, Boucher, and Ives also, I decided to use both terms to describe this particular layout.

btw, O-scale had plenty of tinplate too! I love the late 1920-early 30s American Flyer O tinplate litho. And early 30s Lionel O tinplate prewar.

Tinplate is on my wish list. I just think it exudes elegance haha it's just so cool!

I also love the history of it.

BillY Without reproductions being made, I could have never been able to get into SG, don't wait! Do it while you are young- more time to enjoy it.  This Basement Layout is the third permanent layout in our home. The Pink 408E is part of the Main Floor "Showcase" Layout, the Lionel 115 Station is a part of the Upstairs Layout.
