429Windup2019Jan19-3

This is a project that is nearing completion - an American Flyer 429 that has been converted to clockwork.  I acquired the shell from a friend and built a custom 6-driver windup motor using Marx internals.  Sharp-eyed AF aficionados might notice that the pilot is homemade, and that the locomotive is paired with a Marx slope-back tender.  I still need to put a white stripe on the running board edges, and I'm waiting on a battery holder to power the headlight.  Hopefully I'll get this finished up in the next week.

Great tin all around guys-love the sound of hearing that metal jingle and jangle(that’s what I call I ha) around the tracks- especially when it’s prewar or from across the pond. That said, my weekend tinplate pictures don’t go around a track nor are they from across the pond.

@Arne and @Jim O'C inspired my first few pics. Found these in pop’s attic last summer, couldnt find any info on them(locally or online) until I stumbled on a thread made by @Steve “Papa” Eastman  . Nonpareil Floor trains1B59A72B-CEDB-43B0-A562-6DB3B5600EF2BA17A675-6E0D-409E-AF4D-80D797EA61AB

PRR gondola is my favorite. The engine is marked 99 on the boiler. The tender is PRR and the wheels, an axle and one of the bogies are in the box where I found them.

Also, picked this up at the Allentown First Frost for $5(part of my first purchase). Ives 215 crossing, missing the bar and finials. Seller and I both assumed it was homemade:

It also happens to be right between 2 lines, a border crossing and a cattle crossing on my layout

That one looks great!  I see a lot of those with broken pilots on them, great job putting it back in action!  I remember (I think) your thread on making the 6 wheel wind up motor a while back.  neat work.

Once I get it completely finished, I'll do a thread on here to show the process.  This is actually a different 6-driver windup motor than the one you are referring to - I've done 3 of them now, each one a bit different to fit the intended application.  I really like the proportions and details of the 429 shell; a friend of mine had it for sale at a train show, and I just couldn't pass it up!

nice Non Pareil set. You can find complete tenders often on the Bay. They also made a boxcar with the same number designation, picture here with one of the 2000 tank cars. 53264 boxcar w 2000 tank car

also a more scarce version of the same gondola was a 26435 but identical otherwise. Can't find my photo at the moment.
