No new find this week so my offer is an old Lionel 254 I restored some years ago, maybe I should have used a more shiny paint but it is not looking too bad.
Have a nice weekend, Daniel

On the elevated line: Marklin replica Rheinuferbahn (White Train) originally produced ca. 1929. This version was made by Fulgurex/Twerenbold in Switzerland, ca. 1979.

Jim,
Count Antonio Giansanti Coluzzi would have been very sad when he had read your spelling of his company name.

I think he would be delighted to see one of his models in operation and appreciated.
Jim Kelly-Evans, that Elevated line is the coolest thing I think I have ever seen...until I saw the white train running on it. Just WOW.

Been contemplating on some junkbox doohickies myself...
Back in October I started adding some examples of Dorfan to the collection. I started with 3 cars. I think I posted them in one of the weekend tinplate threads. In the last few weeks I added a few more cars.
These are the cars I started with:
I've discovered that it is difficult to find these cars in really excellent condition. I know Dorfan had difficulty with its paint, but the examples I see all appear to be well played with -- which is a good thing.
This is one of the recent acquisitions. The log holders should be bright red. There are remnants of the red paint present.
My most recent find is this crane car (derrick).
I love the cranks and the gears on this one. Talk about play value!
Here is the entire Dorfan portion of the collection so far.
Once I find a decent caboose I will couple the train up to an appropriate American Flyer steam engine and take it for a run on the Blueboard Central.
Have a Great Tinplate Weekend

Greg,
You really found an excellent set of cars. Not just the condition, but you also got all shiny brass journals. I'm jealous. I have not been able to find any that nice and don't want to collect the lower end ones.
By the way, there is a rebuilt Dorfan engine available on eBay in green. The bidding is getting robust on it, but it would look great with your set of cars.
George
JKE: Fred previously corrected me on my misspelling of FulgUrex on another thread! It just seems natural to substitute an A for the U! Those repro trestles and the White Train are the cat's meow! And a double WOW on that stunning trainshed. Your entire layout is definitely "The stuff that dreams are made of." (Humphrey Bogart's famous line at the end of the Maltese Falcon) BRAVO, SIR!
Picked up a few items this week. Repainted Marx observation car, nicely done as a Brit piece (although a bit of a lie as the LMS coronation set had a dining car in the rear instead of an observation.
small cottage I believe to be Kibri
Bing ticket dispenser with a few of the original tickets
Joustra autorail which will probably never run again. Battery box is wiped.

RSB: Exquisite speciman!
great stuff Greg. When I was looking for my Dorfan Derrick, really nice one were $$$. And the lesser ones were few and far between, but I scored one. I've been watching tank cars and a few boxcars, hope to snap a couple.

Robust is definitely the word for it. I doubt that I will ever win an auction for a working Dorfan engine; original or restored. I know that Papa Steve and Jeff M have both some fantastic work to restore some Dorfan engines, but I don't have those skills. I won't mind having the cars pulled by a different engine.

Thanks Jim,
It looks like you already have some great examples in your collection. I appreciate knowing what to look for.
I have my eyes open for those cars. I am looking for the cars with brass journals. Don't tell anyone but I already have the NYC and Pennsylvania box cars without the brass journals. I'm working on a freight train without journals too. Oh and of course I should have a representative passenger train too.
Steamer let me know which ones you are bidding on, on ebay. I don't want to bid against you.

Jim, your little cotage is a french model from FV, must be around 1910 and not an easy find in that condition, it looks really good.

While correcting errors, whether it be spelling or grammar, and while that is not a bad thing in and of itself, it is sometimes inappropriate to do so. As a former assistant professor of English, I know this firsthand, and offer it as a polite suggestion for future reference.

Interesting, the seller listed another building at the same time. Would that one be FV also? Did not get that one.

Jim, definetely not from FV. Maybe Kibri or Bing, sorry I do not know, maybe Arne will be more knowledgeable....
Bought the Ives 3253 and AF Type IX No. 1 this year, while I have had the AF 3015 (cars not in photo) for a few years. The locomotive in the background is a Lionel 249E with 265T.

A very good suggestion, Art. Thank you.
From my “what was I thinking?” pile. Sadly, sometimes it is a good idea to just walk away.
Jim.. that Twerenbold looks superb running on your elevated. Beautiful!

I noticed that my posts on Fulgarex/Fulgurex were not appropriate. Apologies to all and specially to Tinplate Art and Jim Kelly-Evans.

Sadly nothing new this week .. so I delved into the collection and came up with ... not O Gauge..lol
Hows about a few Mettoy HO tinplate sets? Will I be stoned as a heretic?
I love this little one , the loco has outriggers that slot in and pivot the loco around at each end
And lastly a Masudaya/Modern Toys clockwork set that is closer to S gauge , I have not seen another .
(There are of course many Japanese train sets , but not in this form / designation and by other manufacturers )
I actually contacted Masudaya directy about this a few years ago and they themselves do not have an example in their museum , nor could they find production details...
Hello Jim.. no, I did not. It’s mine. In retrospect though, I should have left it. It’s pretty rough (mashed in on the base) and finding a replacement crane has been difficult. I’m not particulary skilled in restoration and I don’t have an independent resource. I am still learning that I don’t need to buy every piece of Marklin I see.

Thanks, Rob...I know that you appreciate the European look I'm trying for on my layout.

I still think it's a nice piece, Chris. I also just bought a Marklin freight shed recently. It's also missing one crane as well as the smokestack. But it is charming. The crane will be tough to find and I think I'll try making the smokestack. BU\ut you're right: we don't have to buy every piece that we see. I did pass on a couple of other small stations that I was offered.
