That's the puppy !
Hi Chris/Jim,
Sorry for the delay as I have been traveling (as I suspect Rob has otherwise I am sure he would have replied by now). The two sets have been identified correctly. I have had the pleasure of seeing his MTH Flying Colonel run on his beautiful layout. I knew the red Presidents Special was on the way (and hence the reason I replied).
While the Flying Colonel has a slightly different color blue than an original (right ES?!), it is still a beautiful set. Of course, the red Presidents Special is neat because it graced the cover of the 1928 American Flyer catalog and was never produced.
Thanks for your insights regarding both sets John. I already placed a want ad for both sets which will, in all likelihood, not have much success. Perhaps I ("we") can prevail upon Mike (are you reading this MW?) to run both sets in the near future! All the best to you and Chris. Jim

My Marx world is 95% eight wheel. 6" or 3/16 scale but I couldn't pass up a bargain price on fairly rare lighted 556 caboose, model 776A.

Sorry guys I have been traveling with no access (or time) for train related posts. Yes both set are identified correctly. Yes, the FC is the wrong shade of blue, but it is a neat set nonetheless. BTW the sets are both ozone generator (read traditional motor) and weighted heavily for superb pulling power.
Thanks very much Rob!! Maybe we can get enough guys/gals to urge Mike to put it in the 2017 Tinplate catalog...or at least the Flying Colonel set which was last done in 2003.

Hi Steve,
I agree that the 1110 came after Hornby's Red USA locomotive. Looks like Hafner was influenced by Hornby, or perhaps both were copying someone else (Ives?)
