Wow! To my recollection, this is the first Polar Express VisionLine item ! It looks awesome...and I am not a Bonafide GG1 fan . Now it's Old Rivets and this one...will need to keep working

FWIW: when I clicked on the link to the Lionel Store, I noticed an HO Polar Express Berkshire that had snow on the cab and tender roofs...that looked cool. That would've been a neat feature for the 20th Anniversary Berkshires.

Wow 😳 - never thought about the “Polar” colors on a GG-1 - that looks awesome - I think it works

For me the GG-1 always had a little bit of a Christmas feel to it - maybe because of all the years in the postwar Lionel catalogs or being from the Northeast and seeing them in the winter in the snow - I like it 👍🏼

Ouch. Guess I'm really 'out of sync' here but that's almost an abomination - a GG1 is a thing of beauty. This is just plain 'Butt Ugly' to me.  I'm old now. You guys go ahead and enjoy but someone has to speak up!    :-)

I see.

No photo with the department store Santa. No letter to Santa.

And you said the Polar Express GG1 was “Butt Ugly”.

It sounds to me like this is your crucial year.

If I were you, I would think about climbing onboard!

I'm a fan of the GG1 for sure and regret only having one of the handsome full scale models - the JLC DGLE 5 stripe. I have owned an original 2332 Lionel unit for many years. Would love to have  one of the Vision models with the sparking pantographs but $1700 is difficult justify and am afraid I would choke!  If anyone can come up with an upgrade kit to add the sparking feature to the older units I'm all in. They certainly are fantastic models and I learned a lot several years ago when Jonathan started his highly informative thread on them some years ago. You new guys should check it out - a veritable encyclopedia of information. Do any of you younger fellas even know what an encyclopedia is?

I don't 'do halloween' either...     Feel free to ask me why offline.

With a Halloween Triplex on order, and being a fan of the monster movie genre, remember UHF stations in the 1970s - they showed all the great monster movies - it is my firm opinion that the BiPolar (MTH riveted version) would be a super-scary engine. I certainly understand the parody of a Transylvania GG1, however. The arcing effect alone should be pretty scary with the room lights dimmed or turned off. Santa is another matter, he requires super-fast trains and only the GG1 would suffice! That's not a slight against the BiPolars, they could hit 75 mph as I recall.

FWIW: I am going to send an e-mail to Lionel requesting they ensure the Polar Express GG1 is made in the correct shade of blue - the darker blue. This is one expensive locomotive - and IMO the darker is nicer and is more in-line with the shade of blue on the passenger cars in the 2004 movie. Better (and less costly) to get the shade correct the first time

Well, I went for it. This is my first scale GG-1. A fantasy engine of a fantasy engine. I was able to get 10% off signing up for the mailing list and free shipping. Now if you would produce the epic Orange TRANSYLVANIA 5 stripe.

One thing about trains GG1s. It doesn’t matter where they’re going what color scheme. What matters is deciding to get on one.  {or more}

A couple of POP Ups. It said if you sign up for emails you can get 10% off. It gave me a code. Then it said if you order today get free shipping  then another code. When you get to check out it will give you only one promo code box. Don't be fooled. Apply the first code, then the box goes blank , apply the second code.

Then it said if order the Orange 5 stripe...........

A belts-and-suspenders approach would be ordering through a dealer who accepts no-questions-asked returns. The Acela blue would not be a good match for any of the previous scale stuff except for the recalled RPO. But, that option isn’t available if it’s only available from Lionel.

I'd be very surprised if the gg1 matched the older release polar cars, or even the ones in the 2024 volume 1. Very difficult to match previous runs of anything but black.

Tom, to Lionel’s credit, the scale hobo car, the recent scale sleepers, and the replacement shells for the RPOs are dead ringers color wise for the original scale cars. So, they can do it.  It’s just a matter of consistency. I ordered the newly redesigned observation car and have my fingers crossed that it turns out like the sleepers did.

To Lionel's credit, they had made replacement shells for the scale RPO and Reindeer cars with the darker shade of blue.

Hey Paul, do you have the replacement reindeer car?  If so, can you post a picture?  I originally held off ordering it because they didn’t make a black roof version and was glad I did after the blue showed up wrong. If corrected replacements are available, I may track one down and paint the roof.

I never seen a replacement shell for the reindeer car only the RPO.  I also never heard that they had a program in place to replace the reindeer car shells.  I had the RPO car replaced with the correct color.

IMO the reindeer car though not perfect was close enough for me.  Paul, I'd also be interested to hear about that.

I had my RPO replaced as well. It took a bit of patience, but I was very happy with the resultant car. They were able to do the repo shells right away since RPOs are made routinely for the catalog.

Would definitely be interested in a correct reindeer car. I was skeptical they would do replacement shells since it will likely be years before they re-run the horse cars to tack the repo shells onto the order.

Roger on replacement Reindeer cars. I am pretty sure Ryan of Lionel made this happen. I haven't put mine on yet...they had told me there's only 4 screws...it's on my list of things to do which is quite long, and nothing is easy. I think these are about a year or maybe older...how time flies. Write to Lionel and specify item # and attaching receipt is always a good practice. I tried like heck to get replacement shells for my Polar Express High Speed set and cars, but I think not enough people wrote to them. Rider: I think these were only made with snow on roof...I would've also liked a black-roofed version.
