Were have all the Marx guys gone

They're still around, for some "train season" is just starting. The late winter in the Eastern US could be the culprit.

Yup, this ol' Marxist is still here. 

I basically built some of my Marx collection from scratch. We not gonna just up and leave like that, kamerade.

Sometimes we just pop out of the shadows................

I thought every collector had at least a few Marx pieces. I have literally hundreds but I try not to limit myself to just Marx. I collect anything in o-gauge, HO or standard gauge tin or pressed steel that catches my eye.

What car is that firewood?

News Flash!...Not every collector. I've been at it since 1947 and I've never owned any Marx . I don't think that I have missed anything. That doesn't mean that I do not enjoy looking at it.

I'm here. my modest Marx collection.....

the first was my recently passed Uncle Jim's CV. I had heard how my Grandmother had bought it at GC Murphy's for $1. After I received my Uncle's trains a few months ago, Dad told me that this CV was originally his, bought in 1943, and later passed down to his brother. 

And I think Marx came up with the right switch machine:  low profile so it is less likely to get hit!

And they made the smoke fluid only Pepe LePew would love!

Now, what about Marx plastic items?  Do they belong here in the tin section or the regular O-27 section.

It's a silver litho-frame C&S reefer with one door missing. It's part of a beat-up silver litho group I found a few years ago. I think it might be a Joy Line transition car, as the frame is tab & slot coupler, but the body has the Joy Line coupler slot.

Mr El Classico, Thanks for the comment on the trains Its kind of funny when I started in the 70s no one really wanted the Marx much and it was in boxes under the tables at the train shows , i like every one else at the time were post war Lionel crazy, Along about 1976 I picked up the engine for the military set at a TCA meet in Indianapolis Indiana, Well it wasn't long till it was all over .The goofy looking little trains with the funny colors took the spot light.

We still have the post war Lionel , We still have our Standard Gauge , but it seams we like the Marx the most . I believe its because of the brightness ,the color  and the just plain cartoon look of it  , It begs you to use your imagination.   Or maybe its the sparks those little wind up tanks throw.

Kind of reminds me of those   old Looney Toons or Merry Melodie cartoons I still watch and laugh about.

Yup...there are Marx collectors out there (and on here), although a few have passed.  I was just collecting the Marx with the tilt fork couplers, specifically, but not limited to,  the 3/16th, but there is only so much of that, so I am not as deep into it as many.  If you collect all of it,  you may have a lifetime of searching.  I got into this hobby from HO to find my childhood trains, and it grew.

Looks like you have taken a Marx engine, and hooked up a Lionel tender.  I have done that several times!

That is a LOT of Marx considering we first heard about your first engine (relatives CV) only a few months back

 I was going to agree with you, but then I remembered that I have at least two of these.

Marx was my starting point, had tons of it. Now narrowed it down to 6" eight wheel and 3/16 scale for the most part. As I redo my layout to make room for more Std Gauge, the Lumar Valley section with all Marx accessories will remain, just a bit more cramped. Here is the slightly reduced footprint waiting accessories to be put back.

oh I've had Marx for several years, and have posted most of it for a while.

yup, spare MPC tender, and not ready to go after the Marx CP tender and Prewar cars, so I made do.

Great display! I noticed the silver-litho C&S car and others there with the Joy Line coupler through the body. Pretty cool; that must be from right around when Marx was starting out.

Marx is not all tin, plastic, or S scale which runs on 3R track.  Maybe it should be in a classification of its own on this Forum!

Anyone have a pic of my first Marx diesel..... Santa fe A A with no reverse . Came with a figure 8 track , Wabash   gon (yellow)   a box car and caboose... Single axles on each end of car with no automatic coupler....  I can't remember the engine number.  I think it had 6s or 9 in the number.  The thing would scoot though.. Probably around   late 40s earl;y fifties. Yep all metal.

With no reverse and the description of the cars, my guess is your set was headed by a Monon, Seaboard or KCS diesel. These types came with the small non reversing motor, and also reversing motors. All the other Marx diesels were bigger and only came with reversing motors.
