Greetings from Beckley, WV!

Sometime back I asked for vacation ideas about West Virginia. We received many suggestions.  Thanks to those suggestions we are having a great time in West "By God" Virginia!  Tomorrow will be our last sight seeing day. We'll be going down to Thurmond, WV, and the tracing the old C&O and VGN all the way to Mullens, then back up to Sophia, stopping at anything we find interesting along the way.

We've already spent a great time up in the Blackwater Falls area, taking many hikes an grooving to the sights. Yesterday we saw some EXCELLENT scenery from Blackwater to Cass, including time spent at Seneca Rocks.  Today we rode the Cass Scenic all the way up to Bald Knob. You have to see the grades and tight curves to believe it!  Curious: At Old Spruce we met a C&O F-unit/B&O GP9 with a short passenger train.  Some of the passengers exchanged trains.  Where did that train come from???  Talk about a surprise to round a curve and be staring at the face of an F-unit!!  Had no clue that operation existed. Thought the Cass operation was isolated with no in-service connections.

Anyway, having a great time and love this state!!!  Thanks again for all the suggestions!

I don't know what info that you got from the local folks, but AMC Dave can give up probably the best info as I think he's up and around Cass frequently, he lives somewhere between Cass and Marlington I believe.

They have great plans to rebuild all of the line from Cass up the river to Durbin then there is another segment that will tie into to some of the old Western Maryland/C&O.

If all that comes about, it will be the best of the best in America!

Not just opinion either!.....Glad that you're enjoying your trip to our neck of the woods............................Brandy
