I have wanted a model of this engine for decades. Only one company put it out is HO, but nobody in O scale. Railroad Modeler put out articles and plans in the fall of 1989. This was a powerful and beautiful beast that ran in the W.P. lines in the Sierra Nevadas. They were built in 2 batches in the 1930s. Is anybody interested in having a model of this engine -either 2 or 3 rail? If we could get enough interest, maybe Scott Mann would also be interested!

Can you post a picture or two?
Thanks,
Ed
I don't know how to do that, but there is a webpage on the Western Pacific with a picture of each of the 10 massive engines. I don't know how this engine is overlooked my model builders, but far less spectacular types are modeled. This was the prototype for the monstrous DM&IR Yellowstones.
This locomotive weighed over a million pounds, had a tractive effort of 137,000 lbs. and with booster over 150,000 lbs. It lifted 4000 tons up a 1% grade and worked over the Feather River canyon. W&R imported models of this in HO which now command over $3000.00.
Thanks Tom! This particular engine is not too well known. I would love to see this is O-scale made by Sunset.
There are a lot of other really great photos out there that I tried to post but they posted fragmented.
Best way to me to get them was to email the "250" page to myself under "file" then print out my own email. But when I try to post it on OGR it aborts.
Does any one else see these big engines, 80 foot passenger cars along with rocket ships and submarines as an importer's subliminal ploy to our phallic narcissim?
Hi Guys,
The WP had 2 classes of these 2-8-8-2's. So we have to choose which one to have built. There are many differences between the 2 classes: drivers, tenders, feedwater heaters come to mind. So we have to narrow it down and give a manufacturer our request.
I would love to see one brought in. I would purchase either class.

Here are some pics...I think both orders (built by Baldwin) had 63" drivers...am I remembering correctly? To me the Elesco type FWH is my preference, what was the other? Worthington SA type? Some other photos can be seen here.

And from the second order # 260 with larger tender.

Chris,
Yes, 63" drivers on both classes. And both classes built by Baldwin.

This is one I did for a friend. It's not 100% correct but close enough for him. It was originally a Sunset 2-rail B&O locomotive with a few modifications, including a new tender cistern.

Was this from a B&O EM-1? It looks nice!

You're right. I get my B&O and C&O mixed up, being from California.
