Hi,

I am looking for prototypical photos., preferably in color, of Mead/Westvaco's PS-2, two-bay, covered hopper car, back when the company was only Westvaco and had a plant in Carteret, N.J., during the 1950's.

The car is presently advertised by Weaver Models and the car body is all red, with white markings and is very attractive.

The markings read: Westvaco Chemicals-Westvaco Mineral Products Div. Food Machinery and Chemical Corp. Carteret   N.J.; Reporting marks initials: SHPX, road #26257, builder ACF.

I have searched the Internet, but to no avail.

Please, if anyone has photos. notify me through this forum, I am willing to pay a reasonable price for same.

Thank you,

Ralph-RJL

Well the only prototype info and Pic I can find is from the ACF book by Mr. ACF himself, Edward J. Kaminski.  On pg 258 there is a Black and white photo of a GREY hopper  similar to this ACF design:

but No end Channels and all 9 ribs equidistant from each other. Also End grabs on ALL 4 Sides. NOte this book picture shows WESTVACO CHLOR-ALKALI DIVISION  Food Machinery and Chemical Corporation Westvaco, Wyoming

IT's part of an order of 35 cars Shippers Car line Series [SHPX#26126-26160]

It's Grey hopper with black trucks and journal box lids  painted white or Grey- I can't tell!

Thank you all,

I'm really glad to get so much info. and help.

Nice hopper you made Bob and thank you for informing me of the differences of the roof hatch door shapes-ACF square and PS round, I did not know there is a difference.

Prrhorseshoecurve thank you for sharing the photo. of a ACF built Westvaco covered hopper, with the square roof hatch doors.

And rattler21 thank you for info. where I can obtain photos.
