The Wharton safety switch was developed by the Pennsylvania railroad. The mainline rails were not broken and the rails to the sidetrack were elevated with a ramp to enable the cars to pass over the mainline rails without contact. My question is (1) are any Wharton switches still in use and where (2) If they were discontinued, why was this? (3) Does anyone make these for two-rail 0 scale?
