I have several 2600 series and would like to know which is the proper engine and tender.  I hope it is a black metal engine with copper trim, but I am asking the experts here.  Also, I would like to find a reasonably priced 2620 red search light car (the one I have was modified with knuckle coupler trucks).  Did Lionel make a Hopper for the 2600 series? Thank you gentlemen, Chuck

Hi Chuck

2600 series small freight cars were made from 1938 to 1942 and they came in many different sets or outfits as Lionel called them. Looking in the 1938 catalog, freight outfits were pulled by Steam Locomotives like a 1666E with a 2689 tender, Locomotive 259E with a 2689 tender, Locomotive 224E with a 2689 tender a 225E locomotive with a 2225W tender. 265E Commodore Vanderbilt locomotive with a 2225 tender and a 238E Pennsy Torpedo with a 2265W tender. All these outfits came with two or three cars and a caboose. Yes Lionel made a 2600 series hopper 2653 in Stephen Girard green or in black. As to where to find a good 2620 floodlight car well……. local train shows, E Bay, York train show , buy and sell forum here  …..it has been said……..Half the fun is in the hunt !      Hope some of this info has been helpful
