Chuck, off the top of my head:

Lionel C&NW:

Die Cast Alco (Baby Trainmaster?) Early TMCC

GP7/9 TMCC, this was part of set that came with the Command Base and Cab1

Early Dash 9 (the slightly short version) TMCC

UP/CNW SD70Ace (Legacy)

Ten Wheeler mentioned above

Business Train F7's (Legacy)

Scale GP7 or 9 (Legacy)

SD40-2 (Legacy)

Also S2  (Legacy)

Lionel Wabash:

F7 Legacy

E8 Legacy

I might be missing something, but that is all I can think of. I can get product numbers if you want, but it will take a little digging.

If we are talking diesels;

U30C with TMCC/RS5.0 cab # 935, and matching dummy 936

Sorry Chuck, I got all giddy when I saw a topic regarding two of my railroads that I did not read that you were looking for STEAM locomotives.

Beside the above, you you can add the Lionel 4-6-4 semi scale Hudson. Again early tmcc, but this might have part of the mth/Lionel engine law suite.

As far as I can tell, there has only been one, main line steam engine from Lionel in C&nw and that is the ten wheeler listed above.

Sunset 3rd rail did do a scale class h, northern in C&NW that has tmcc.

I have that Wabash Hudson and was thinking scale. I've been leaning toward steamers lately and while there are massive ones for UP, etc. was wondering what CNW and Wabash ran. Looks like I could get a 10 wheeler and an 0 8 0 respectively. Think I'll look around and see what they had in 1 to 1 in the history books. I remember seeing the CNW when I was a kid...and one of their steamers flattened a few pennies on the track from time to time for me. Wonder what that steamer was, it sure looked big to me when I was about 8 yo.

Thanks for all the help, and thanks for the diesels too. Good info.

I'll look it up. I think something like this would be exciting in Legacy...

Chuck, I don't hold any hope for that locomotive being manufactured, but I would buy one for sure.

I do think high driver Pacifics in general are and have been under represented, however, Lionel did make one in C&O (F7) I think, and was very well done, but sales, at least locally, did not support the model and were often found on sale or blowout.

I little note about this engine, if you look carefully, the light just in front of the smoke stack is angled up at 45 degrees. I guess the thinking was an added safety measure. This engine was used to pull the early "400" and the light did not last long in that position.

UP did the same think on the M10000, but that one went straight up, not on a 45.

Thanks for sharing.

Didn't see it mentioned above, but MTH made the gorgeous E-4 streamlined CNW Hudson several years ago in PS1 - maybe PS2 later? - I have one (PS1). Possibly my favorite non-NYC 4-6-4.

The PS1 version can be seen for very reasonable money (especially for a well-made, accurate scale model) that is only a simple ERR Cruise Commander w/RS kit away from living in the TMCC/Legacy world.

Mine is on this ERR-conversion list...but not at the top, yet.

D500:

Your correct and I did forget about that engine. I do have the PS1 version also in line for a UP grade to ERR. Actually, MTH did a pretty good job of hitting most of the popular streamline steam engines.

Streamline steam is something that you really love or really hate it seems. I do like the art deco period that many of the engines represent, but it does hide the running gear if you like to see that sort of thing.

"Midwestern steamers usually don't make the cut with Lionel or MTH or anyone else for that matter."

Alan I agree but I also understand, if sales are not there then it would be pretty hard to ask for something that has a history of not selling.

Take the recent Sunset 3rd rail, C&NW H1 Northern. That engine is still for sale on the Sunset website and Scott said he did not make that many... don't know the numbers, but if that one engine did not sell, what chance do we have to for Lionel or MTH to add steam engines in the Illinois Central, C&NW, C&EI, Wabash lines, just to name a few.

Actually I still find it interesting that not one copy of scale Illinois Central Steam has even been made. Semi Scale, Switchers, yes, but mainline steam, not one.

Anyway, I guess it helps to limit my spending... sort of.

I have the C&NW 2908 Baby Hudson with TMCC since new.   It's a great runner, and has been solid in the 16-17 years I've had it.

I have a C&NW 2908 locomotive that has sound problems.  There is no box for the locomotive so I do not know the Lionel product code to search for replacement parts.  Do you happen to have the box with the product code (6-XXXX)?

If all else fails do not punt, try another alternative

Lionel has a Wabash steamer in new 2020 Vol 2 catalog.  BTW, I am a huge Wabash fan.  My dad, both uncles and cousin worked for the Wabash out of St. Thomas Ontario.  When I was a kid my dad took me on an F7 (he was an engineer) from St Thomas to Windsor or Buffalo several times.  My job was to blow the whistle at every crossing.  Great job for a 10 year old  - I loved it!
