There are a lot of different lubricants out there to service our locomotives with. My preference is Nano Grease and Oil. Curious to know what my fellow model railroaders use and why. There may be a better grease and/or oil out there.

I use Excelle Lubricants (X-L).
Automotive bearing/axle grease or LaBelle white grease, 3-in-1 household oil, graphite dry
lubricant.
Red N Tacky #2 in gears, CLP or light machine oil in axles, ect.
I also use Excelle. I just went over an engine that I had not operated in many years and the operation was smooth. It also removed a squeak that existed.
The bottles are very well designed and give great access and give some of the best control I can remember when squeezing out some lubricant.
Excelle Lubricants. An OGR forum sponsor too.
La Belle #106 grease. Safe for plastics.
Me and my club used Excelle Lubricants years before they became a forum sponsor. They work, are nicely packaged, and easy to use.
I use Bosch Purple Grease (p/n 1 615 430 001 or 1 615 430 005) which was originally produced for use in Bosch power tools (hammer drills, etc.), but has found a following among the R/C Helicopter folks. I apply it with a toothpick, rotating the gears to insure complete coverage. It can be found at most Bosch power tool distributors and Fastenall outlets as well as on the internet.
It lasts between 10 to over 15 years for each application.

I use Excell lubricants and have been very happy with their preformance. The 4 pack is very convenient.

I prefer Lucas' Red N' Tacky #2 in gears and like. Lucas' gun oil works wonders on everything that requires a light lubricant. Lucas Oil Products stay where you need it.
Red N Tacky!
Red N Tacky in the gearbox, greased the gearboxes of all of my locos when I bought them. I don't think I'll ever have to again.
Labelle 102 for drive rods and axle bushings, its a thicker "light" oil, more suitable for O guage and it stays where its put. Because of that, Re-oiling is seldom needed.
Labelle 106 grease.
I have some Red N' Tacky, which I use on occasion.
For gears I use Lucas' Red N' Tacky. For medium & light oils & dry graphites I use Labelle. Where I want the oil to be electrically conductive (such as with lubricating pickup rollers) I use Bachmann's E-Z Lube Conductive Contact Lube.
What I've liked using is Skilsaw grease. It's thick enough to stick to the gears, but thin enough to apply easily with a non-pointed 18-gauge hypodermic needle. I've also had positive results with Labelle 106. Didn't know about Lucas Red 'n Tacky. Will have to try it.
I use lucas red and tacky grease and use the oil in the lionel maintance kit.
Brill cream, a little dap will do ya!
Ok, that was bad.
for gears i use Woodland Scenics Moly Grease w/Molybdenum
White lithium grease.

That's what I use for metal gears. For plastic, it's LaBelle plastic-compatible grease.
Atlas O lube kit and Red n Tacky
I have used basic ball bearing grease from the auto store for over 40 years. I have also used 3 in 1 oil.
Gandy

Got in big trouble in the first grade for that! Teacher asked "what is 3 'n 1". My answer; oil. Straight to the Principal's office, called my parents, and then home for a whooping. They thought I was just being a smart a#@. I was serious.

Red 'n Tacky. Get the grease sized gun tube, and your set for life.
Lubriplate Aero for grease. For oil Ive been using "Reel Butter" (fishing) on some for the last few years. I like it well enough so far. Boing's pricy Boeshield T-9, dry film spray lubricant is the most incredible general lube/protectant ever, but Im out, and Ive never actually put it on a train yet. My penetrating oil, it must be Aerokroil to work smarter, not harder.
I've been using Labelle Grease and light oil for a long time. I tried the Lionel stuff and was unimpressed to say the least.
I do want to stop by the Megasteam table at York to talk about their new line of lubricants though. If it's as good as their smoke, I'm in!
Red and Tacky.
Red and Tacky.

"That's what I use for metal gears. For plastic, it's LaBelle plastic-compatible grease."
i don't think i HAVE anything with plastic gears.
Red and Tacky for gears, Mobil 1 for everything else

I have to agree with ROGER1
I've been using Red N' Tacky #2 for several years now primarily in the gear box and its great stuff. Previous to that I used Lubriplate #105 and it also was very good but not quite as good as the Red N' Tacky. For the drive rods and axle bushings I use LaBelle's 102.
I repair, maintain, and super tune fishing reels. fresh and saltwater. Lucas Red and tacky is THE best. A lighter grease is Lightning Lube. Best oil: Quantum Hot Sauce. This is a light synthetic that will not get "thrown off" ! Sticks like glue!
I just use automotive lithium grease for gear boxes and I use the Woodland Scenics Hob-E-Lube for axles and rods and smaller gauges
When it comes to grease, I prefer Lubriplate grease. For oiling applications, automotive engine assembly lube works very well when used carefully.
Been using a grease that was in an old coffee tin that father used to use on his car and its old but works it seems.
Seen a grease test on you tube that may be of interest with red n tacky and another called amsoil I think ?

Worst case, you can also buy it online at dozens of places just "google" Lucas Red N Tacky.
You can get it at amazon as well.
