I see on Ozark Mountain that they’re selling what looks like Iowa Pacific passenger and commuter cars, as well as some locomotives that I think SLRG had. I also note that these listings state “This locomotive is sold free and clear of all liens and encumbrances”, which makes me wonder if it’s due to SLRG’s financial history, or just to differentiate this from the former Indiana museum equipment that was also listed recently. Iowa Pacific seemed to be a unique operating idea with tourist trains, Santa/Polar Express, excursions, etc. Did they just never make much money at it and the losses caught up with them? They lost the Chicago Junction switching operation in suburban Chicago recently. Is the company as a whole shutting down? I met Ed Ellis once on an Illinois Central Historical Society excursion. He seemed like a train nut kinda guy.

Did Ed Ellis start as a brakeman on IC, became a VP at CNW, later VP at Amtrak? I was googling about him to find his RR background. An ironic comment turned up from an April 2014 Trains article “Sam Zell, from what I know of him, is a lot like Ed (Ellis) someone not cut from the same cloth as the rest of us. Ed and Sam could make a wonderful pair. They could just as easily be combustible.” Has Ed now reached the “combustible” part?
