I know names for our railroads is like a brand on a cow.  It is a method of ownership and I think most of us want our railroads to have a catchy name that makes it stand out to others.

Okay, now to the point, how did you establish your road name.

My road name is Kansas City, Red River and Gulf. It has taken time for me for me to be fine a name that looks good for me and "K C, R R & G does that.

Anybody going to share?

Al

P.S  The Kansas Oklahoma & Gulf Rail Road was the basis of the KC, RR & G.

Mine is the Indian Valley. Apparently the name really originated in the Thomas the Tank/Shinning Time Station series...somehow I heard of it and like it enough to use it.

It does have relevance, since my home is only a few short miles from the Potomac river Valley (in Potomac, MD, just outside Wash. DC) and our town is rich in Native American history, with a number of Native American related pieces still surviving. In addition, many former Native American trade routes are now major roads, burial grounds still survive, etc.

Mine is the HOSO&NZ Railroad. No name just letters. HOSO for short. The menaing is obvious, HO, S, O, N, and Z where the gauges I modeled in at the time. A little bit of everything. The HOSO is a magical line that can show up anywhere in any time period to make its deliveries. Much like the Hogwarts Express. The HOSO has no equipment of its own but rents its equipment from other roads and supplies its own crews. It is also of note that the colors were Green with black accents that was LATER picked up by Berlington Northern.

I thought about LACKAMOOLA RR or ONION PACIFIC as puns.  Or based on the part of the world I love best, the Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon Railway, but MVCC doesn't sound that great, does it?.  Or maybe the Durango, Farmington and Sedona Railway (DFS - nice ring to it . . . ).  But ultimately just decided I will stick with Union Pacific and ATSF labels on most all locos, and just call the whole thing "my layout."

Boring, I know . . .

I like renaming my layout whenever I change the track plan. If I'm following some sort of fanciful prototype, I change the name a bit. I've had the Junction Traction Co. Rwy (JTC), North Western Railway, Sodor Island Railways (always spelled fully out), now I'm working on The Llantisilly and Merioneth Railway Traction Co. Ltd.

My railroad is the UET&W Railroad - The Union Eastern, Thomaston and Williamstown Railroad.

The UE also stands for Uncle Ed (me), the Thomaston for my grandnephew Thomas, and the Williamstown for my grandnephew William.

I have a map outlining the route of the UET&W which goes from the real Thomaston, CT to the real Williamstown, VT.  In theory, I think the railroad could have existed.

I also have a 19th century train re-lettered from an MTH  N&W 19th Century PS2 passenger set.

Ever since I was in HO my fictional RR has been Illinois Midwestern Lines. Inspired by the Milwaukee, Burlington, and Illinois Central. Headquarters in Chicago, runs north to the Twin Cities, west into Iowa and beyond (not sure how far, LOL) and south to Memphis (the IC connection). Had decals made with the logo (see pic). Still have the decals stashed somewhere, I should do up an O gauge boxcar.

The original concept, born in HO, for the KGB called for using "Russian" decapods almost exclusively, but seeing there are none available in S scale, I settled for a pair of Harriman 2-8-0's and some Alco RS3's.

Hey Rusty,  sounds like you have has some wheat chaff down you shirt.

May be our rail roads meet some place in the Great Planes.
