Curious for Spring 2023, what is a convenient motel to stay at for York week? Do they offer breakfast with the room? Furthurmore, is it worth staying for Friday night til Sat am?

To me it's the La Quinta or Best Western as they're in the same parking lot as Quaker Steak and Lube where we gather Thursday night, however, the Wyndham Gardens is a mile closer to the Fairgrounds.

If last spring was any indicator of what Spring York will become, just go for the day. At the most, drive down thursday morning and go home friday afternoon.

That's my plan. Thursday and Friday is plenty for the York meet excluding the Bandit meets. Less folks means easier time going through the halls. I am usually able to cover the entire meet 3 times between the 2 days and have time to socialize. We stay up by the PA Pike with some friends. You probably don't want to stay that far.
If you are hitting the Bandit meets, which aren't what they used to be, I've heard a lot of guys staying at the Windgate and seem to like it. Not the cheapest but convenient. I have stayed at the LaQuinta. It wasn't bad the first year but once they figured out York, their prices went up.
Saturday doesn't do it for me. I've stayed twice now and if I didn't find it on Thursday and Friday, chances are I'm not finding Saturday. All the "deals" i keep hearing about must be on stuff I'm not interested it. LOL!
York really used to be a destination week. For some it still is but a lot has changed. Some of the Bandit meets are gone and less attended, a lot of manufacturers for one reason or another stopped going. The big OGR grandstand meeting is at least for now and as far as I can tell for the foreseeable future is also done as well as the "officially sponsored" Thursday night event. I'm also sure on-line sales are not helping. That being said I still enjoy going for an overnight. It's still a good time and a lot of vendors.

I've stayed at a number of them, I got a late start this time so I'm at the Wingate just past I83 on Rt30. I've stayed at the Wyndham Gardens and Best Western as well. I may try La Quinta next, I haven't stayed there. Most of these places offer some sort of breakfast, but if I'm at the Wingate, I drive right past Round-The-Clock, so I typically stop there, they have better food.
I drive down early Thursday Morning, hit the breakfast at Round-The-Clock, and then over to the meet. I stay until Saturday, I always find something to do. 
I have stayed at the following places:
Wyndham Gardens - had a good breakfast pre-Covid, got skimpy recently. Decent bar/restaurant - can eat and have a cold one without getting in the car. Biggest bandit meet, and closest to fairgrounds. Prices have increased dramatically in the past couple of years.
LaQuinta - nice rooms, relatively reasonable rates, good breakfast, close to Quaker Steak. Not far from the fairgrounds.
Days Inn - lots of long-term residents, price is high for what you get.
Super 8 - bring a plastic sheet to sleep on and roach spray, along with a candle for the smell. Keep a gun under your pillow, and don't leave anything valuable in your car. Not exaggerating.
Be very skeptical of anything under $100 per night.
Not a chance I'll ever stay in a Super-8, did that once many years ago!

Some are OK, most are going downhill, and the one in York has to be the worst. I stayed there the first year it was open (nice), and occasionally over the next several meets. Last stayed there about 6 or 7 years ago; it was bad then, and it looks worse each time I drive past it. It amazes me that it's still allowed to stay open.
Just for entertainment, I check it out every 6 months when I'm booking for York. Currently, over half of the Google reviews are one star, and the rate is about $60. If that was my only choice, I'd sleep in my car.
IIRC, a forum member stayed there a couple of years ago because they had to book on short notice. Yuck.
I stayed in that Super8 in the early 2000’s it was a dump back then. I’ve stayed in Wingate Wyndham, and Comfort inn & suites. Both were clean ok breakfast but these stays were pre covid.
It's amazing to see our progression in what is an acceptable hotel/motel room as we age. In my teens and early 20s my car or a dive motel would suffice for a night or two. Now it's strictly LaQuinta/Wyndham Gardens level or I don't stay over.

What's wrong with that? You can't take it with you, might as well spend it while you're here.
For the past 7-8 Yorks, we have been staying at the Four Points behind Round-the-Clock. Pre-pandemic, it was pretty nice. Since, however, the service has gone way down. We are trying someplace new to us this York. We try to stay close to Round-the-Clock so we can go there for breakfast every day (beats any "free" hotel breakfast any day of the week).
When I was going by myself, I used to stay at the Value Inn Harrisburg-York a little ways up I83 in Etters, PA. At the time, it was no-frills, and had a little continental breakfast. It was clean and comfortable enough for me. Don't know what it is like now, though.

I agree with John. If the whole point of going to York is anything other than the meet, that's just seems silly. I can't make it this October for a variety of reasons that stemmed from car issues draining funds and having to burn vacation time because of that. If I had the money and time, I would definitely be at York. I don't need to buy anything, though that would be a nice thing to have as well. Staying at York Wednesday through Saturday has always been what I've done. While stays have cost different amounts of money, it mainly got cheaper when I planned earlier. I have stayed at a few different places, and each have their pros and cons. All have been within York city limits, I haven't had to drive a long while to get to the fairgrounds not to any of the other places that some of us frequent.
That being said, trying to find the right prices for a stay are always better the earlier you plan it. Most of the regular York attendees like John and others have had their stay for the following York already booked or booked after the meet if I am not mistaken.
Yep, already queued up for April 2023 at La Quinta, haven't stayed there before, so I thought I'd try it.

One of my strategies has been to reserve well in advance, and then check back a few days before the meet. Sometimes, rooms would become available at reduced prices and I would re-book. And if not, no harm no foul. Post-Covid, I haven't had any luck with this however.

That's where I've stayed the past few times, as the Wyndham Garden has really raised their prices and cut back on their breakfast. Unless it's changed since April, you'll like it. Great hot breakfast. Getting to/from the highway can be a bit convoluted. In April, I noticed that LQ (and the nearby Best Western) had a noticeable number of long-term residents, which usually isn't a good sign.

I thought that back route might be best, I know when I"m at the Wyndham Gardens, I do the reverse to go over to Quaker Steak... I do have to say, Wyndham Gardens is convenient to the fairgrounds, but an extra five minutes won't kill me. 
When I first started coming to York in 1992, I had to stay in Lancaster. And it stayed like that for years. So IMO, they are ALL (relatively) convenient. Stop your groaning and moaning, and enjoy the show.

I have never stayed in the hotels around York but have always stayed at an AirBnb the last few times I have been at the York show and have had very good experiences at the homes I have stayed in.
Some thoughts:
1) It's a lot easier than it used to be.
2) I agree about Super 8. In the 1990s it was a fine budget option. Sometime this century, it was acquired by a firm from another country where the standards of cleanliness are different than in the U.S. And that's all I'll say on that one....
3) I have tried Air BnB three times and all three times, the reservation was canceled at the last moment by the host (the property was sold, "I forgot my brother-in-law was coming", etc.. Two of these were in two different locations in York. YMMV, but never again for me.
4) I thought I had a conflict this year and was not planning on going to Fall 22 York. I learned this week that I would be able to go and noted that there were still a decent amount of options available even at this late date. Since I am traveling with a partner, I went for a bed and breakfast a few miles out of town. It was reasonable and we'll see how it goes.
On that note, if I'm traveling alone I view the hotel as a place to change my socks so I go for the lowest price (e.g., Motel 6). If I'm traveling with a partner, many of the options mentioned above (e.g., La Quinta) are where we head.

I guess I take a slightly different view. Life is too short to deal with any sub-standard lodging, so I pick the brand names. If the difference between Motel 6 and La Quinta or Wingate is too much of a burden, I have no business going to York anyway.
Good bed bug less night of sleep is normally better than any small discounts.
