I have looked at all the usual reference sites and can not find a lead on what this shells proper ID is. 504 turns up nothing. The thought was to marry this to a powered chassis for sale out there and make an inexpensive F unit.

That my be a Lionel shell, but those are not Lionel graphics. Not sure who's, though.
As Chuck said, that’s a Lionel shell but an aftermarket paint scheme.
They date from the late 1970’s into the early 1980’s. Some seem to have originated with Madison Hardware, but were also likely available elsewhere. Other road names exist as well.
