In addition to the 1907 ATSF booklet in another topic, I also found this 1892 booklet titled, "Air Brake and Signal Instructions."  The cover has an impression dated Aug. 11, 1892, much like a notarial seal creates an impression.

Air Brake and Signal Instructions 1892 001

Due to its age, I haven't tried to open it as I would to read it, although the binding seems quite firm.  At this point, I have no idea who issued this booklet; who it was intended for; etc.

Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Probably tedious, boring information, only of interest to the keepers of strange and archaic technologies.(Like several, maybe many of us here) There could be great statements on foot-pounds of energy requiring destruction by the train braking system, and service brake applications required so as not to over-run signals. Or it could just be an agreed signal system between train crew members. Go ahead, open it - this is no Gutenberg Bible. ;0)  See this link: http://tinyurl.com/m43cpw4

The book is useless to anyone unless it's opened and read. As it stands, the scan of the cover has the same value as the actual "book."
