What is this pre-war Std gauge train?

I would guess from poor photo,

Lionel 10 engine, 2 377 Pullman cars and a 378 Observation.

I have the same set in poor condition, they are fairly common.

This is Set 352 from 1925.  Mojave colored 10 (large gear super motor) and 2 x 337's and a 338 observation.  Actually kind of scarce, especially with good paint, but not a widely collected set.  Good example of Lionel's transition from early manufacturing style to the Classic years of SG production.

I've been able to search with those numbers and I'm quite sure that's what my relative has.

 

Follow up question: Am I correct that the same model number was used for multiple colors?

Yes - the number 10 came in different colors.  I have a gray and a Mojave.  Also similar cars.  Your set looks like the color gray with maroon doors and windows.  The Mojave is a different color.  More olive greenish. I will post pics tomorrow.

to comment on your last remark... i have seen much more severe damage to models as a result of how and where they were stored than any amount of play-wear they received over their operational years.
