The J class by far is the fave locomotive for myself, son and grandson! I have taken excursions behind this massive loco twice. The first time in 1993 in Michigan with my son who was 6 yrs old at that time.It was billed as ‘The Cannonball Express’ Then again in 2023 in October in Virginia thru the Shenandoah Valley with son and my grandson, also 6 yrs old!A epic excursion and memorable road trip, what a blessing!

That ever existed?
Definitely the PRR Q2 class. At 7900+ HP, the most powerful locomotive ever built.

Is this a new section of Randy Harrison’s thread of 11/19/23 with the same title? 🤔

No. Just a duplicate because the original posted apparently didn't see the other thread with the same title.
PRR Atlantic. Although a minor player, these were the sportscars of their day. The 460 Lindbergh engine is the star. Engine crews hated them for their ride quality. I like the super-high driver diameter and the Belpaire boiler fitted to the smaller overall size of the unit.

I see. 👍

EMD F7. And a vote for an Alco RS-3.
Diesels, more specifically an Alco RS3.
The Northern steam engine. Almost any Northern, although the N&W J is at the top of the list. IMO, the Northern is just a GREAT blend of power and speed. Sort of like a 4 funnel ocean liner.

My original Lionel 671 holds a lot of fond memories, but I’ve come to realize that just like my cars I like modern, not vintage stuff. That being said, I consider ANY diesel to be ‘modern’. Any new purchases will be diesels, not steam. I like most diesels but they need to be highly detailed with figures in the cab. For some reason I’m not a fan of Alco diesels.

You realize this is the "Real Trains" forum, right?
Uh, nope. Sorry. The topic list I see doesn't indicate what the originating forum is, just the title of the thread. I'll have to pay better attention next time..
Still, I'll go with modern diesels over old locos. I have a large engineering/mechanical drawing behind me that I got from a client I had, Union Pacific Resources, that shows their 4002 Big Boy. A really nice pic, but I still like the modern stuff.
Milwaukee SDL-39 by far.
