I have been running Rail King Santa Fe Northern no. 2927 (MTH 30-1465-1) steadily for over a year now and it has more than 1100 scale miles on the DCS odometer. It prompts me to ask for those who have DCS, what are your highest scale miles locomotives? The alternative question could be, which ones failed the soonest! Rail King Santa Fe Northern no. 2927 definitely falls in the "low maintenance" in my book - keeps on running with no major problems as do the first generation Rail King Santa Fe Northerns and C&O Berkshires.

Hi Challenger3989, I know you from youtube. Mine would have to be the Railking Imperial SD70M-2 with PS2.0. It has roughly 900 scale miles on it. No major issues yet. Some MTH Locomotives have over 100,000 scale miles on them, and still run great. This is the case with a GP-9 that runs everyday at a train store.
Most of my engines are in the 1-2K mile range. My Railking Rugged Rails B&O F3, the super short version included in the starter sets is OVER the 4K Scale Mile mark. It is a full PS2 equipped engine. I got it in 2004 as part of the B&O F3 Freight set. Great set. Never had a problem with the engine. Not one.
I have 35 PS-2 / PS-3 locos with a total of 42,568 miles. The AmTrak Cascade FP-59 has the most miles at 2,873. None of the 35 locos have ever been sent in for an electronic failure.
Hey, B. Your You Tube videos are great and have been an inspiration for me! Your knowledge of modern diesels is extensive. On the video you posted on your friend's new Premier Norfolk Southern SD70Ce are the 4-5 buzzing sounds it makes on start up - are they warning buzzes the locomotive is ready to start?
Bill T,
That 2,800 + beats my northern's 1100 + . You are at least transcontinental with that mileage level!
That's a little feature I've never even taken the time to check. I'm sure, though, that you guys have me beat by many miles.
Thank you. The buzzing alarm is prototypical and it does mean it is about to be started up. In real life the buzzer can go on for much longer than it does on the models. My Railking SD70M-2 has the buzzer with the SSU "extended startup" soft key.
I have a PRR 2-8-0 with 3862.5 & still runs great.

Mathew's Thriftway, a supermarket in Bellevue, Washington, has an MTH SD24 that has been running on their display layout for about 6 years now. It has over 5,000 miles on it. Real miles. It has logged over 250,000 scale miles.
It has received regular lubrication and two changes of traction tires. The grease in the gear boxes has been inspected but has not needed changing. And it has run all those miles on Scaletrax with no noticeable roller wear.
