Guys,

I am an old time Star Trek fan.....so anyway I was watching the Falling Skies finale episode last night and was quite amazed to see a train depicted as a way of decoying the aliens and leading them off the scent which was to attempt to destroy the giant sky net. Does anybody know what type of train was used?

I think it was a diesel but I'm not sure which type!

Help please! I know I'm not the only scifi fan here! It was on TNT.

Mike,

Probably not. But for those non-sci-fi members, who don't know that Falling Skies is a separate show, not the last Star Trek episode, there really isn't enough info to easily look into and watch it so they could answer. What season are they in now? A title, show number, or original showing date might help.

Adriatic,

Please excuse me for having confused topics here. What I meant to say is that I normally don't watch the series Falling Skies, but I did on Monday night. What I saw was quite amazing on what appeared to be the season finale. I was just wondering if anybody caught sight of the engine (which appeared to be a diesel).

I just made referance to my being a Star Trek fan because I thought that ST is more popular than FS.

Kent, that's an interesting point!

Scavenging, like in any good post apocalyptic world scenario.

As a side note, even tho the locomotive in question is a diesel, since all the electronics have been taken out by an EMP how did they get the engine started? I know a diesel is a fairly simple engine not prone to the effects of an EMP doesn't he locomotive have a ton of on board electronics that would be?

The train appears at about 45 seconds, can't really make it out.

Im a fan of sci-fi, but not a foamer, more I used to read a lot of it. Never heard of falling skies till you mentioned it. I watch so little TV, I haven't had cable in years. I couldn't tell what loco it was.

Jerry, those guns seem unaffected. And unless they continually use an EMP someone could rewind a starter motor or generator quickly. Magnets can be made fast too. If an EMP would even affect windings. If the engine used to start the loco is a diesel and the electronics were bypassed they would be fine once started, diesels run on compression alone, no spark coil to burn out. Now the EMP effect on the heavy electric drive windings or controls is beyond me. Maybe its a hydraulic fluid drive unit?
