Building a small, top of ping pong table, layout. This layout plan is mainly for operating, switching, and having fun with all kinds operations. It uses the Lionel Legacy system. I will be using 042 curves and switches.

Therefore, I want to use the shortest Lionel Legacy Diesel that I can find. Do you have a favorite short Legacy diesel that you use? If so, please reply back with the model and also if possible the Lionel item number.

Roger;

I was recently looking for the smallest Legacy switcher I could find - although my minimum curve is O-72, the switcher was going to be used shifting cars in my freight yard and I wanted something that took up minimal track space. The shortest I could find was the Alco S-2 switcher (I got the NYC #8504, 6-38480, from Nicholas Smith). It is 12 1/4" long and is rated for O-31. Hope this helps.
