I only have 42" radius curves for standard gage right now, and when I run the 400e it slams into the curves (you can hear it jerking on the tender when it turns). If I set the speed too high the front truck tends to derail as well sending all manner of multicolored sparks everywhere. The Dorfan 1134 doesn't have much of an issue, but it's much shorter than the 400e.

So would 57" be a reasonable radius, or should I go higher? Keep in mind the amount of space I have is fairly limited.

Also, for O gage as well, I only have 32" curves and I would like to run my Railchief set with my AF Hudson. I think the Railchief set says it required 72" radius, but I'm absolutely sure I've seen it run on less with no problems. What would be the minimum radius for that?

Rail Chief cars need 72 diameter or the vestibules will bind.

42 diameter for the 400E.

There is no stock curve of 32 diameter. if it is 32 radius it would have no problem as that is 64 diameter.

A 400E is Standard Gauge and runs on Standard Gauge track O72 is O gauge track.

That's correct. The 'O' in O72 stands for O gauge. Standard gauge track should be denoted STD72. There is no standard gauge track curve smaller than STD42 to the best of my knowledge. I use STD72 with my 400e. It will run on STD42, but not when double heading.
