What’s a GURU on an SD9?

This is on the side of the long hood near (on?) the radiator side of FWRHS former NKP SD9 358. The letters GURU stick out. Is it a safety or a testing device?

We called them Guru plugs. They cause the water to dump from the cooling system when the outside temperature gets too low. Prevents blocks from freezing up, like a frost plug on an automobile. Doug
