Good customer communication... why is that such a difficult concept for some vendors?
Does anyone really understand what Lionel's online shipping schedule is all about these days? In the past, items that were shipped to dealers have typically been removed from the schedule immediately. I always thought that was awkward, because there was no way to easily get a quick snap-shot of what has shipped.
I now see the shipping schedule was updated on 1/7/2015. But I can't see if anything has really changed. The Big Boys are still listed, but we know they've shipped. Same thing for the Cab Forwards and the O-Gauge ES44's. Are they still listed on the schedule in 2015 because Lionel wants us to know they shipped on time? Well that's fine, but what about the Berkshires? We know they shipped in November, and they're not listed at all. I guess I'm just too easily confused, and my mind-reading skills have gotten a bit rusty. I do see that some items say "SHIPPED" when they've shipped. But that's only for track and electrical accessories which are produced on an ongoing basis. And even at that, there's stuff out there that has ship dates of almost 2 years ago. Do we really need to know that? Isn't that old news by now?
Here's a novel idea, Lionel. Since it IS a customer facing document, why not start 2015 with a clean slate and revamp the whole darn thing. List products with accurate ETA's. And if a product delivery slips, update the schedule with a new ETA that means something. And if something has shipped, mark the item as SHIPPED (with it's delivery date), and keep it there for a year. After that, shipped items can roll of the list. Seems like a rather simple and intuitive approach to me. Whadda ya think? A new catalog is reportedly due out in early February, so let's clean up this mess of a document before another couple hundred products are added into the mix. Deal?
And oh yeah... For whatever strategy that is ultimately decided upon for this online document, could you please COMMUNICATE those changes to your consumer clients so we don't need to read minds anymore? Thank you.
