Got a few:
I would love a New Haven one....but not in McGinnis colors, in Hunter Green!

8104, the Lehigh Valley of course.
The N&W for sure.
Pennsylvania
followed by a close second.
This is a stately engine.
That's mine.
I'm sometimes in the area, so I once stayed at that Railfan motel for the heck of it ... the Station Inn in Cresson, Pa. While there, a train led by the CNJ and the Conrail heritage units comes through. Pretty neat for a Jersey boy.
UP Katy, CNW, and SP
Hands down favorite for me is the UP SD70 Katy. Heck, I like it so much I bought a non powered version to go with the powered. Ok, I know that when I run them together it's not realistic, but it dang sure looks cool.
My favorite "heritage locomotives":
1) SP 4449
2) UP 3985
3) UP 844
4) NKP 765
5) N&W 611
6) AT&SF 3751
etc., etc., etc.
I wouldn't walk across the street to see one of those modern diesel things!
This is hands down my favorite heritage diesel. Unfortunately, I have not purchased one yet

Jack, did working with diesels all those years cause you to dislike them that much, or did you ALWAYS hate them? Working around big rigs for 31 years has pretty much sucked out any love I ever had for those!
This is one of my next acquisitions, the pop cycle. when I see it i want an orange cycle. Yummy!

Right, as Railroad Retirement is NOT connected to Social Security, and the U.S. Government is NOT able to "raid" the Railroad Retirement funds for their own, "other" uses.

I didn't know that about railroad retirement and social security, very interesting.

READING all the way baby!!!!!
I'd like to add my two cents on this. They are all such beauties! And they are a heck of a lot more attractive and useful that all of the large trucks that clog our highways and destroy our roads. Just wish some of the rails could rise from the dead, and so they are all my favorites. Ok, so that was three cents!

love the "Steamers". What are the metal blinders for?
Those are NOT "metal blinders"! Those are smoke lifters, or "Wind wings" on the Union Pacific. They were designed to lift the smoke above the train during high speed, i.e. over 60 MPH.

I'll second that. I also like the other UP heritage and Bush 41 units. I think it may be a weakness for SD70ACe's. And yes, they all have scale wheels and fixed pilots and have done track time on the club layout.
And I got to see the cab of the Katy, plus was on a passenger train push pull on the UP along with SP and CNW. All legal!
You have to have a favorite? :-) For me it has to be the PRR 8102 simply because the PRR is what I primarily collect.
I own a model of the 911. The 8102 is on the list.
The NS heritage series actually started me collecting modern stuff this past year. I have the 911 lashed up to a standard painted ES44AC. When I did this i realized I didn't have a lot of modern freight to go with it so I started out getting a few newer freight pieces. Funny how that works...

Wabash. Kinda wish the CNW was less.... fanciful?
Gentlemen,
Some great looking engines, however mine is the Northern Pacific GP7 or 9 I love the Black, Gold and Red colors!
PCRR/Dave
Of Course the Green & Gold Pa is not bad either

Question, in your opinion though, do you think it's a least nice that UP & NS did these types of paint schemes on modern diesels. In my opinion it does bring back memories of seeing though's trains. I may not care the type of diesel it is. But seeing a fallen flag railroad gone but still running by Class 1 railroads to paint them like this is very nice. For me, I love the Virginian Heritage unit. The black and yellow look very nice. So if you could pick at least one Heritage Unit what would it be?
