Hello, I am retrofitting an old air whistle tender with an ElectricRR RS4 kit, and since the hall effect trigger has been temperamental, I am adding a factory RS truck with the pcb sensor. I ordered everything that I could but Lionel does not list a serial connector for sale and I am stumped. The pn on the board is 691-PCB1-071, and it uses a three pin male port. I would like to find a matching female connector with leads. I can splice in on the other end. Any ideas? Thanks

Bill, any idea what the wires off the sensor are? I can't find any diagrams that actually describe their function, only their color. I've got three, a yellow, blue, and green. One looks like it's a jumper, and I'm guessing one would have to be a ground, but I don't want to guess and fry the board. I'm using an ERR kit and their manual doesn't specify. Thanks
I'm thinking that one powers the sensor board while the other two are the trigger, am I right?

Well, I have everything hooked up, but I'm not getting the chuff sounds. I do have sound in neutral, as well as the whistle, but no chuff or whistle when moving... It did work with the ERR reed switch, but intermittently, which is why I swapped to the factory sensor. Thoughts?
See if you have 5vdc at the sensor.

Loose connector, it must have wiggled free from playing around with it. The help is most appreciated, but after all the work, I'm still having the same issues that I had with the ERR supplied reed switch - mainly losing sound over the switches. Must be an issue with the ERR board vs the Lionel? I have one other board that I plan to install that's a simple diesel horn out of boxcab, but after that I'm sticking with air whistles. I give up. Did you install a nine volt battery.

Make sure you have good power and ground connections. Does it happen at all switches.

Yes, and only at the switches. On a small loop it hits four though, so its pretty noticeable.
If it only happens on switches, then I think you are losing power and the battery should prevent that.
I would check the wiring and battery plug. If that don't help, you might have a bad board. If you stop the engine to change directions, do the sounds continue.

If you turn off track power, the battery should allow it to go through the normal shutdown sequence, and easy test. If the battery isn't working or connected properly, the sounds will just abruptly turn off.
