I didn't get to go to the Weaver auction or sale, but a friend from the forum volunteered to bid on a box Interstate hoppers for me. The good news is that I won the hoppers-the bad news is they were shells only. $30.00 for 12 shells wasn't a bad deal. For those who haven't noticed people on Ebay seem to think that Weaver trucks are made of gold. So as I see it I had two options;
1) Wait until Lionel has produced enough of their LionScale line to have the trucks available in their parts department. This isn't a horrible option, I saw the first LionelScale Hoppers at the Lionel Warehouse Sale and it appears they are using the same design.
2)Being that I don't want to wait I opted to look for another option. I purchased some Lionel starter set trucks and wheels during the 1/2 parts sale.
I had to buy some screws and some washers from the hardware store;
I had to grind down the sleeve to make it rest flat against Lionel's truck>
After that it was just a matter of screwing the truck to frame and I was done.
The Lionel trucks are a little taller than the Weavers. Nice thing is I didn't pay a king's ransom for them.
