What to use ?

Hi Everyone

I am looking for any sugestions on what i can use on the top of a Layout, I am using 1" foam on top of 3/4" plywood and will seal the seams with a Laytex caulk so i am looking for something to put on top of the seams to hide them when i paint the foam i was looking at the woodland scenics Blended turf or the course or fine turf, anyone have a sugestion on  a homemade material i can use instead of the woodland scenics turf to help save some money , the woodland scenics goes for about $12.00 a container.
