Hi,

In the world of having to fix trains and not having all the right tools, Or just being creative to solve problems, what tools have you designed and made in order to fix trains or work on trains or help on your work bench.

Small stuff, not custom work benches, or tool chests on this thread (We can have a separate thread for that.)
Also, I will start another one for test tracks in a little while.

I think sharing ideas on what we do can be fun.

So here goes:

I built a Proto 1 tester for a lot less than MTH sells theirs for!

A custom rack for my rivet press tools...

and i just prettied the one up for the wheel sets.

A flat wood table for my rivet press to hold things I want to press other than rivets and stuff

I ground a small "OGR" screw driver to remove the security screws on a Bachmann Transformer I repaired.

I know I have more.... Just need to find them

R/ Ben

I built this miter box for cutting track. It's copied from an 0 gauge commercial product, but I made mine to cut either 0 gauge or Standard Gauge tinplate track. Slots were cut on a router table and the miter slot was cut on a miter box. I make little tools and jigs all the time, but this is the biggest and most interesting.

A table saw would work fine for the grooves as long as you have a precise, micro-adjustable fence. Since I have a router table, it was the logical tool for the job. The router was also handy to cut the bevel on the center groove, which was needed to clear the center rail insulators. There are other ways to do that bevel, too, but the router table was by far the best and easiest.
